I don't know what the device costs, I do know it has problems, and it's a pain for multiple drops, sitting in a receiver's drive blocking it while punching the tiny touchscreen before moving is not a good way to endear yourself to strangers.
I've noticed the miles not matching the day, and I have to go into inspection mode to read them. Not consistently, either.
No, I wouldn't use them if it was not required, too costly and don't save me any time.
Would any of you use an ELD without being forced to?

Without getting too involved in the ELD debate, I am simply looking for information on using an ELD while an Independent Contractor. To make sure whoever reads this, understands exactly what I am saying, I am looking into signing on with another Carrier (someone with their own DOT #) They claim the 150 miles radius and doing t a little research, I show their off a bit and so for the sake of argument, I am looking into running an ELD in my truck, to be 100% sure I am compliant. That said, doesn't the carrier I am leased to have to keep track of my ELD? If not, does a 3rd party take care of that? Appreciate the response.

No way in H would I use one without being forced

In other words the carrier responsible for safety has control of the ELD. You only have control over your driver portion.
As far as a 3rd party goes, I’ve never heard of such a thing.. -
