Hagerstown, Md. to Jurupa St. Ontario, Ca.

Few people, unfamiliar with I-70, will run on I-70 West of Denver in CO because of the MPG-killing hills. I ran from Nashville, TN to L.A. often and I-40 is a good route, I-81 is OK but I hate it in VA as the traffic and hills conspire to make it frustrating. 99% of cars will stay 3 inches from the car in front (in the Left lane) and never ever leave until they exit. This means most trucks are stuck in the right lane until about 45 minutes after they needed to pass a slow truck in front of them.

Google is showing stay on I-70 to St Louis and from there go to Oklahoma City, OK and finish on I-40/I-15 into L.A. Traffic is terrible and there is very litle parking other than Ontario, CA about an hour East of L.A. The mileage difference is 50-100 miles. CA speed limit for trucks is 55mph and they require trucks to stay in the right 2 lanes. It's not called Commiefornia for nothing. Many drivers hate CA, for good reason. Think Ohio, with sunshine and many more criminals.

 

Jurupa St. is easy to get to: I-15 south just past I-10, exit at Jurupa. Nice wide streets and you don't have to go anywhere near L.A. You have both the huge TA and Petro very close. They're both pay to park or buy 50 gallons of fuel. There's also a Flying J nearby that I've never been to that I assume is full 24 hours every day. Plus, the traffic around there is horrible.

I-81/I-40/I-15 would probably be faster even though it's a little bit longer.

If you want to give your truck a workout, possibly need to use chains (required to carry Sept 1 to may 31 for i70 west of denver, and for good reason, the altitude tops out at 11 or 12k feet), in exchange for imo some incredible natural earth beauty... go for it. It's one of those, gotta see it at least once, or once in a while, but if you strictly want to take it easier on your equipment or have already been over 70 by car or bike or just plain don't care, then 81 to 40 to 15 is a good route as well.

 

81 south to 40 is a peaceful ride if you can handle running nights. Otherwise it’s a cluster fluff of solar powered truckers during the day.

Nashville morning rush hour and Cajon Pass will be a pain if you don’t time it right. Normally if I’m inbound I’ll stop at the TA in Barstow mainly because they have a Black Bear Diner and roll into Ontario before rush hour.

There’s a good sized TA and Petro right where you’re going so parking won’t be a problem. I’ve always preferred the Petro however AT&T cell service is absolutely horrible. You also got to spend $30? there to get free parking otherwise you’ll be paying cash to leave.

As with any new area it can be a little intimidating at first but otherwise it’s nothing. Split speed limits so be careful of the local morons flying by you on both sides.

Other than that you may experience a little bit of culture shock..homeless living in tents on the side of the highway..etc. Keep it under 60 mph and you’ll be okay.

 

Once you get to Hesperia. Before dropping down cahoun. Traffic gets bad. Max speed limit down the hill. I don't remember what it is. There used to be a scale. I haven't been that way since it burned down. Others would have to chime in.

 

Idk what you're running, like reefer, van etc but that might not be the best idea, Florida sucks for so many reasons but freight out is a big one. Idk if la is any better, especially recently, but Florida is notoriously unreliable. Unless this is like a dedicated thing?
