Has anyone used IdleSmart? or a similar system? Any thoughts? I was thinking about getting an APU system ,but I think that might be too pricey for me at the moment.

Was thinking about getting Idle Smart installed, wanted to get some takes from experienced truckers. Any downsides to using a system like this? (Idle Smart - The Smarter Alternative to an APU for your Semi-Truck - Idle Smart)
Or should I bite the bullet and get an APU installed?

    Thank you

I have thought about getting that system and have an epu installed. It is a decent system if they did not want that 50 a month for 36 months. That is an issue I cannot get past.

The first question is what kind of truck do you have? If it is an Emissions truck I would go APU no matter what. It will save you a lot of money and down time if you idle that truck.

Guy i know had that idle smart system on his 07 pete. It would fire up and shut down as necessary to maintain temperature or charge batteries. He had a bunk heater for heat. It cost about $2500 cdn. He liked it.

I echo the opinion in previous post. If you have an emission truck, avoid idling it for any stretches of time longer than it takes you to fuel. Your emissions system will thank you. If I had a need for ac in summer for sleeping, you bet I'd have a diesel apu.

He also has an EPU as well. Well worth it for that system since it will only start up once in awhile to recharge for 15-30 minutes. This is the reason I wanted it for to recharge battery if I am sleeping or have truck sitting for awhile.

Those guys over there are so far ahead of what the industry are doing. I sure hope their ideas/practices eventually gain traction.

I am surely following it all. Will be doing a lot of the stuff they have done on my next truck. I talked to my dealer today and they do not have any slots for this year still sold out. Maybe next year I may try and put in a order for it.
