Looking at a 1987 FLC120 with a 12.7 DEEC-I in it. Anyone know if there's any issues getting the ECM and injector firing box these days? If I were to buy the old truck. It would be more of a toy then OTR truck. Retired but still would like to have a truck to knock around in.
I do know back when Detroit came out with the Series 60. I ran one of them for a year. Have to say that truck pulled well. But sure went through Alternator's like mad until we figured out the issue. They Detroit/Freightliner blamed it on my Big box and CB. But turned out the 5th wheel was not ground to the frame. Thus with all the lights on the reefer unit. It was frying the Alt.

The DDEC I system was a two-box system. It had an Electronic control module (ECM) in the cab, and an Electronic Driver Module (EDM) on the engine to operate the injectors. Also the ECM has a card/Stick for the settings.

Just thinking did the DDEC I stop and the DDEC start with the 1987 model? Got to thinking the DDEC I may have just been on the tail end of the 2 stroke engines. AS some of them had this setup also?

Subscribed. I do believe you could get DDEC on the 2 strokes. There’s a truck puller with an Argosy and he has I think 2 12v71 or 12v92s with DDEC in it with an Allison backing them. Crazy!

I know they swapped over to the DDEC II in 92 and even had a few DDEC III's in 92 for Marine use.

Interesting. I always thought the ddec was first used on series 60. A 2 stoke!! I’d like that. I remember Drivers being afraid of the black box in the cab. Worried about it recording and placing blame for accidents or ? Lol. Maybe a call to DCS find out about availability, chances of ever needing one, and repairs available,
