Possibility of a waiver for hazmat?

I'm not an expert on the subject but doesn't sound like you would meet the disqualification standard.
Maybe someone with more knowledge, either of the regulations or general mental health conditions pertaining to the haz mat endorsement.
Kudos though, for being upfront and honest about the past, and good luck going forward in your trucking future.

 

Compared to the total number of drivers, very few have Hazmat, and even fewer use it on a regular basis.
You really don't need it. You can easily go your whole career and never need it.

 

First, let me say that I'm proud of you for getting & staying clean and working with the psychiatrist to get treatment. Major respect.

Second, I'm not sure if the 72-hour hold (the one you didn't volunteer for) counts as being "involuntarily placed into a mental health facility." You would have to ask a lawyer or a psychiatrist to be sure, but it may be that the hold is considered outpatient, and that you would have been placed into the institution instead of released to go home if your evaluation at the end of the hold period had not gone well.

 

Don’t need hazmat to have a career in trucking

 

First off, good for you getting clean.
Excellent first step.
Ain't no room on these roads for anyone cracked out on anything. It's dangerous enough as it is, no need to make that worse.
Not having Hazmat isn't a big deal.
Does it make you money? Absolutely.
Get your physical done and signed off by the doc.
That ensures you're able to get a cdl.
Then, find a school to get trained.
Pay for it yourself.
This has 2 huge benefits...
First, you're not tied to anyone and can roll with whomever you want, no strings attached.
Second, you get the success of handling it yourself, which is more psychological than anything else... YOU built YOURSELF A BIG FAT WIN! It feels AWESOME to build wins for YOU.
Celebrate those wins, and you'll get more of them.
The more wins you get, the better being clean will feel, as you grow yourself professionally.
Then, determine what direction you want to go with your career.
It's not always about the money.
Find a company you can roll with and learn from.
Grow as a driver and a person.
Smooth and steady wins this one.

Tons of truck drivers don't have HazMat. Not having HM will barely cause a problem for you.

 

Haz mat is more trouble than it's worth.

That $86.50 plus the endorsement fee of 2.50 in my states a deal breaker..lol
Not to mention that pesky tsa precheck.

And we won't mention what you or your company can't haul. But I get it.
