Most people really can't think critically. They just think they can. They only think with one lense or ok the surface.

It also doesn't necessarily take critical thinking to get a PhD, nor does it take critical thinking to acknowledge that men and women have distinctly different bone structures.

 

As I like to say (only when appropriate), "book smart--but street stupid"....

An idiot with a good memory can regurgitate facts onto a test and earn a degree. This doesn't necessarily mean that they are able to apply that knowledge in the real world where critical and abstract thinking are required.
Many professors choose teaching where they can become experts on a very specific subject were they can dictate the parameters. This way they are indeed the smartest person in the room and their ego is satisfied.

 

Depends. My girlfriend has a PhD. Sometimes people mistake her for my caretaker because I am just a few steps above a drooling person.

I've noticed there is often an inverse relationship between education and intelligence/intellect.

 

Sadly it started as a joke but quickly becoming a reality today.
