This past summer I was doing Aldi's 2-3 times a week the one just below Syracuse. Piece of cake. Pick up in the afternoon and deliver that same night. Either grab a load of water in Allentown on the way back from jersey or head up to Pittston and grab another heavy load of flour
Brokers offer transparency. Imagine that!

When I started trucking all the lumpers stood outside the gate. You picked the one or ones that you wanted. They unloaded you and gave you a fake SS number and you gave them cash.

Yeah crackheads worked fairly cheap and got done quickly too. The checkers were the hold up with everything.

I just got a call looking for a Truck. Ohio to Chicago. 287 miles paying $1400. I already booked my Truck. Called a friend of mine, he happened to be at home looking for a Load for tomorrow. Everyone’s happy. Didn’t make me any money. The Brokers done me right, and my friend has too. Glad I could help them both. 136 Mile DH. Total 423 miles w/DH. Not bad going into Chicago for $3.31 pm. He should get at least $3.00 back to Detroit. That’s what it’s about, working together. Helping each other.

I don't like the new process. You need a good internet connection and a comparable device to use it.
Then you have to be awake for that text message when it arrives.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
How are containers' rates doing these days? Any transparency there?
There's a guy here who is manically pestering me for that info. I tell the guy, I don't do containers but he does not accept that.
How does the container line of owner-operator-ship work anyways?
For a few months, I was hauling them for an o/o per percentage of a load but I did not like the hustle. And frankly, the settlements he showed me were not too impressive but it was 19 years ago.Siinman Thanks this. -
Siinman, Opendeckin and TallJoe Thank this.

Sounds like it is even more "demeaning" segment than the dry van general freight, which is what that fellow was driving at.
Hey, it is really funny like these different categories of freight are, per owner operators perception, segregated by this...umm, nobility statuses of those who handle them.
Trucking business population must be a fascinating subject of study by social sciences. Including psychoanalysis.
If not, then it should be. -
Jubal Early Times and TallJoe Thank this.
