If you can only hear a CB radio from 3 to 5 mi away on your magical antenna, Obviously the signal to noise ratio in your receiver or of the antenna itself has some defects that need to be looked at.
Try it on 11 meters and tell me how it works. Like I said, this is a trucker forum, and most drivers would like to know about the road being shut down before they get to the backup and if 3 to 5 miles is all you can hear then Obviously you're the guy that's going to be saying "Why are we coming to a stop-up here"

What cracks me up is guys going OCD on all the technical aspects of the setup process, but then their "test" is getting a radio check from an anonymous station. No way to verify who you're talking to, what equipment they have, no easy way to actually hear yourself on their radio. Oh sure you can make a video but video can be manipulated

The real test is the discernible .0039uv tone injected by an NIST certified service monitor.
Those numbers don't mean anything to you, which is why I simply documented mile markers for your simple-minded pleasure.
Remember your transmitting performance will be measured by my receiver.

By the time someone 70 miles away even gets to that spot, the area will be cleared up. And I have talked from SC to Texas on a bone stock, out of the box CB Radio (NOT a converted 10 meter HAM Radio) I know more about propagation, sun spot cycles and skip than you ever will.

Nice mobile. I use an Icom 2300 as my base, and and older and discontinued Icom V8000 as my mobile.

I take it you don't run Wyoming very much.

What good is SkyWave propagation for traffic reports 75 miles away? What good is groundwave propagation from 3 miles away?
Neither one of them are going to help you figure out if there's a 20 truck pile up an hour ahead of you.
What makes you think this will be cleaned up in 45 minutes?
