Hey y'all, not sure if this type of thing is allowed here, or if I'm even doing this right. I've never posted on a forum before.
My name is Jennifer. I am looking to travel the upper 48 this summer.
This sounds crazy, but I was hoping to network with some OTR truckers.
I have my route planned out which is basically a huge loop starting from Albuquerque to San Francisco then north to Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, N and S Dakota, Wyoming, Utah. Back to NM for winter.
I will only need rides to major cities via interstates or major highways. I will walk and/or hitchhike out of the major cities to my destinations (waterfalls, state parks, national parks/forests...).
I can hitchhike like a normal person throughout this entire adventure, but I thought I'd reach out and try to make some connections.
I have a small dog, his name is Ripley.
He has travelled the country with me.
I'll be traveling with a 40L hiking backpack.
I am not homeless or an addict. I work 2 jobs during the winter to afford to travel in summer. I do have a car, but I am looking to travel differently this summer. And I don't want to train hop.
If anyone has any connections or ideas on how to travel like this, please email me.
✌️❤️

The good news: your plan/idea sounds like a neat adventure, and also lots of fun--on paper.

The bad news: hitchhiking can prove to be EX-TREME-LY DANGEROUS.

Suggestion: modify your plan to make the same trip--but instead.....either rent, lease, or purchase a convertible.
Then do the same thing, otherwise.....

LOL. Hitchhike like a normal person.

I wouldn't advise posting your email address on any form of social media.
That out of the way, most drivers are company drivers, meaning they won't be able to pick up passengers unknown to them. The idea is fun, but not safe for either party. -
Cool idea.
Likely need multiple trucks to get where you want to go. Probably find one from Albuquerque to Ontario, CA, then another one from there up to San Fran area. In a pinch I'm sure there's also trains and other public transport you can use without any planning ahead.
My first thought was where are you going to sleep? Even if you are the nicest, chillest hitch hiker ever, those who give you a lift and those who will also let you sleep in their truck might not be the same crowd.
If it does work out for you I'd be interested to read your blog on your trip.
Godspeedrockeee Thanks this. -
Creative idea, this was something we did in the 70’s . I pray you safe journey.
