While I do know how to do it, I will not do it. I am not risking my license and fines to convert a radio and modify it to work on bands it was not intended for. If you have any other thoughts on getting Mud Duck off the air then I think that would be more welcome on this thread.

I don’t have an issue with “mud duck”, I have never heard him in SoCal. But again, I don’t run 19 24/7. I’m usually on a different channel. Only run 19 when I run alone. The Anytone quad 6 gives me the option to run 2 channels consistent which I already programmed. I don’t mess with other bands not to mentioned my 35 year old Wilson 2k is limited on the bandwidth. So go ahead and knock yourself out and do what you have to do(goodluck, nothing is gonna change). BTW, you do know there is an “OFF” button(knob) on your unit if something bothers you ? Right ?

Did you tune the radio for a flat SWR?
That's true. -
Apparently too new to know that ham is not written in all caps. It’s not an acronym.
HAM? HAM radio? ham radio? Amateur Radio? amateur radio! - KB6NU's Ham Radio Blograbbiporkchop Thanks this. -
No. I tuned the antenna, with extra grounding braids. I explained that in my post.
-
Now wait a minute, it sounds like you "tuned" the radio resulting in a 1:1 SWR out of it.
too funny. -
That's the way I read his post too. But then he clarified in another post that he doesn't tune radios. Kind of confusing.
I'm not sure why some people get hung up on having a 1.1 swr. I worked an Italy station yesterday on 15 meters using 15 watts. The contact was around 5,400 miles according to my logbook program.
I made several contacts with an swr of 1.6 using my 27 ft Zero Five antenna. On a side note, when Jason mentioned
" I was HOOKED on getting the best performance I could with any radio and antenna I laid my hands on."
A slight chill came over me, I was thinking Oh No, he must be Rabbi's evil twin.. Ha.High Stepper Thanks this. -
It is even more confusing when he threw in the "I know more than you"
That's good.
Are you working on any certs like DXCC?
I have a random wire antenna setup here at the office, I have my little PRC-320 which is missing a tuner section (it is a parts rig) and I have a remote tuner at the base of the pole which is serving me well. I just jumped on the radio on 40, it seemed to be a bit alive, forgetting that the tuner needs to be adjusted manually (it is remote but not automatic), and I made a few contacts going east with a 2.5:1 swr. I looked at the RF amp meter and it was fine, looked at my Bird meter to see the Bird watts and it showed I was pushing a full 3 watts out of the radio - if you know what a PRC-320 is, then you will know what I mean.
yep scary ... very scary. -
1.6 SWR is only about a 5% loss, so you'd still be radiating 14.25 watts, not accounting for any other feedline and antenna losses. Not even enough to move the S-meter on the receiver. Even 2.0 SWR is only an 11% loss, but that's when most transceivers start cutting power to protect the finals. No reason to get so hung up on getting a perfect SWR.Night Stalker10 Thanks this.

I don't see where you can possibly get any confusion from. That ONE radio, which I do not have and has been long gone because I sold it, yes I did tune it. No, I did not tune it for SWR. I tuned the antenna itself for lowest SWR via an external SWR meter, and checked by a couple of Dosy meters.
Timin770 Thanks this.
