Well be careful, cell phone plans limit usage. As for wifi being slower then cell? Uh even on 3G wifi is far far superior to my sprint cards speed. Considering the limited avaliablity of 3G (only in large cities right now) I think paying a little extra for wifi is fine. Besides I get the IDLEAIRE and FLYING J internet and I am good at like every place in the US I would sleep anyway. And still pay less then the 59.95 a month, it was cool for the driving down the net thing, and the gps thing, but really, I can live without the internet when I am going down the road because slow internet drives me batty anyway and the gps I got in a cute little out of the phoen device called a garmin.

Verizon has come out with something new called MiFi . It's a personal hotspot that fits in your pocket . It costs $100 and basic coverage is $40 a month for 250 MB , $60 for 5 GB

You are talking about PDAnet. It supposedly disguises (they don't officially make this claim for legal reasons) the fact that you have a laptop tethered to your phone. They have it for the iPhone as well. It's kind of interesting because it uses the iPhone's wifi capabilities
to tether to the laptop so you don't need a usb cable. You have to jailbreak the phone to use it. I used PDANet pn my mother's windows mobile device, it worked great. She was paying for an air card through Sprint and only using about 100 megabytes a month, because all she does is use it for online banking and to pay bills. PDANet eliminated the need for the aircard. It's against most carriers TOS to use it, but when you are only using 100 mb a month, I don't think they are going to bother you even if they do take notice. -
Last I checked the newest version of PDAnet lets you tether the iphone to your laptop through the cable too. So now you can keep it hooked to the laptop since running it wifi use alot of power and drains the battery pretty quick unless you have it plugged in.

no guys im not talkin bout pdanet..im using that rite now... my coz have sprint phone n he dun pay ####.. that connection was double the speed of att oj 3g..basically u have to pay 40 or 60 dollar for phone as modem but that app bypass the phone as modem connection.im tryin to buy sprint phone too,ill find n upload it for u guy later.. im still on the road frm monroe mi to baketsfield ca. gonna take me couple of days... i use 400 500 mb everyday...well u can use flyingj internet for free too, but its not everybody"s thing... u can start spoofing users interet packets, then u have 2 find somebody"s mac adress(that user have to be connected to flyingj) and final step- change ur mac adress to the users mac adress... works for me lol... but use at yo own risk...

I Talk and see my Mom and Dad alot in Florida Through yahoo messenger and they can see and talk to my wife and kids also...I know it is not the same as in person but when your out on the road for weeks at a time i am sure any type of video calls can help more then just a phone call.

i'm at a petro in carlisle, pa and there wifi is pretty good considering i'm in the front row in front of the driver entrance. i found that the flying j in my opinion has the better wifi signal if your not to far away from the main building. i haven't tried the pilots or t/a wifi yet but i've heard that the t/a wifi is a rip off i was gonna try it one night but the girl at the counter refuse to sell it to me she said that people keep complaining about it and since they can't refund you the money she not gonna sell it to me by her own choice but she said if i really want it i could buy it but she said i may regret it and so with that litte bit of advice i didn't buy it. haven't tried pilot wifi because i don't like parking over night in pilots unless it's the only truck stop around and i'm that tired. i prefer 1.flying j 2.t/a 3. petro. love's and pilot and the other truck stops are at the bottem of my list as last ditch stops i gotta rest.
is there a such thing as a wifi signal booster of some sort? if so, were can i get one. -
I use verizon as well, (5GB/month). Main advantage it works wherever you are, no need to worry about getting to a truck stop. Its $60/ month. The only time I have to watch the MB usage is when I download movies from netflix, about 750MB per movie

check out radiolabs.com I have a long range high power wifi setup that plugs into the USB port and I was able to pick up wifi signals over a mile in Iraq. Haven't used it in the states yet. My setup cost $180 and has a magnet mount antenna that can stick to the roof.
badman976 Thanks this.
