While I don't support the use of driver facing cameras, I think that everyone should have a personal dash cam in their truck. Just to CYA.
As far as the company, our trucks have a forward facing camera and a rear facing one on the bottom of each mirror.
But no cameras facing the driver. If they ever go to them I will retire. Again.
For those that support driver facing cams in trucks

Yep, I was all on board with GC until that point.
I'll repeat to my dying day that no good can come of a driver-facing camera. Ever. But the way people drive nowadays and the way everyone believes the 4-wheeler over the truck driver, a dashcam(not drivercam! ) is the best way to save your bank account, license and career.4wayflashers, Phoenix Heavy Haul, dunchues and 5 others Thank this. -
Haven't and not reading the article. My truck has a bidirectional cam, both forward and rear facing. It wouldn't hardly work otherwise. BTW, I'm never doing nothing wrong, so cam not catching crap.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

What is wrong with driver facing cameras? (Video only)
Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
I have two in my truck. But they are both mine. One faces forward, the other faces out of the driver side window as to get the mirror & just beside & to the rear of the truck.
The company has nothing to do with them. A few management people know I have them but, they belong to me. If I want to release the data, I will. Otherwise it belongs to me. If something does happen, I'll download the data & throw out the card & tell them they weren't turned on or recording for some strange reason... Imagine that.LtlAnonymous, Bean Jr., W923 and 2 others Thank this. -
Yes, that’s fine. Driver controlled. Driver knows where images are going. I run 2 of my own small trucks for my small business and I have cams facing road in front and road in back. Nothing facing me.
No audio.

Yes, seriously. If you don't want to be seen while you're changing clothes or sleeping or whatever, shut the curtain.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

I wonder how many trucking company offices have cameras facing each office worker?
Savor the Flavor, LtlAnonymous, Gearjammin' Penguin and 3 others Thank this. -
It’s like the movie 1984. But many will support this until they put the rat cage on your face and then it’s too late.
LtlAnonymous, Bean Jr. and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -
Soon, all employees in ALL occupations will be video monitored.
But seriously, what office worker could make a mistake that would cost a trucking company a multi-million dollar judgement ?
Sorry, but how possibly could you compare a truck driver to an office employee??Another Canadian driver Thanks this.
