"About half of all crashes happen at night...."
Lol......so, I'm guessing that the other half happens during the day...lol
Oh the humanity!!!! There must be something done!

Actually, I think that part of the problem, (in my experience anyway), is from people who come out of lighted parking lots, Wal-Mart, clubs, etc. And they don't realize that they don't have their headlights on.

I blame it on laziness and ignorance, read that little book that comes with every automobile. Oh, wait that takes precious time away from social media. How could you possibly educate yourself about your multi ton cruise missle!

Not all vehicles anymore have "auto headlights".
Our '16 Hyundai has the ability, for some unknown manufacturing reesun, to turn ALL EXTERIOR LIGHTS OFF, so it's just bleedin' weird.

Too many simple minded people breeding even thicker minded people.
Pretty soon, a decade maybe, the thickest populations of brain challenged people will rue the day.
Normal will be like IDIOCRACY, with emphasis on "OW MY BA**S" and "burrito fixin's".

I knew having a lighted dash and auto lights as long as the key is on was going to cause problems with critical thinking. DRL’s don’t help either. I see lots of vehicles going down the road after dark with no taillights on because of the light from the DRL’s. Some of them within the last few years are just as bright as the headlights. Saw a new Vette just the other night running in stealth mode.

I had noticed that driving in full dark with no lights on seems to be only cars...rarely trucks.

In the case of high beams, there are both cars and trucks that just leave them on all the time and don't care. I gave up trying to give them a courtesy flash because it doesn't work.

I have never used the auto lights on any vehicle I have owned.

I just also learned forward cameras are now a thing on autos. Made my neighbors wife even lazier. And a worse-er driver lol.

    Yep

a lot of vehicles have daytime lights that stay all the time and even the dash lights are on .

they need to just go ahead and light up the tail lights automatically too

I put switches in my car when I was a teenager to turn on the headlights and to disable the brake lights.

made it easier to lose the state trooper assigned to our county.
In a rural Appalachian area , plenty of curves and hills.
