I was kind of surprised too that he didn't even have a light bar. At first when I saw the link I immediately thought of my old "family" when I lived there. Glad it wasn't anyone from the company I worked for when I was there.

No kidding. 45 between the Flying J and 1960. It's sometimes like an ant hill over in that area all day long. Very unfortunate this guy lost his life.

distracted by cell phone or infotainment center.

80% of drivers I see lately, cars and trucks are not looking at the road.

    R.I.P. driver.

Metro Houston has been getting real bad as far as driving around the city goes. Every one is always in a hurry! They’ll be able to pull the black box data from the car to see how fast they were going!
This was a senseless accident that could’ve been avoided.

I can't tell what size exactly that boom is from the angle. Way it is crooked on the trailer and the one wheel completely hanging off makes me think its a 65 or 65 foot. But the 45, the base of the machine is just as wide as the 60/65 almost, with that xtra capacity stuff they have on it. And come to think of it, I guess the driver couldn't have raised the boom much more than what you see on a tilt like that to begin with because of all the safety features.Been a while since I loaded one that new. Way it is knocked crooked like it is I would think they were at least doing 50. Doesn't take much to swing the basket around from impact but to move the entire machine like that...by only hitting the basket, yikes.

    RIP Driver.
Unfortunately being it’s a Landoll any waring lights are non visible once you slide the axles and put the deck down, and if he did have any type of strobes or light bar they would have been barely visible due to the machine.
I’ve been in this situation many times and have loaded on the side of the road, off ramp, in the middle of the road “secondary “ and always have the mindset of “well I’ll be quick and I’ll be ok”
I could definitely see where a few cones or quick foldable sign could help. Not saying it would have saved this drivers life or prevented this accident, as we know most 4 wheelers are distracted 99% of the time.

I’m familiar with that area too..the folks drive like morons down that service road..I’ve seen many major wrecks even fatalities in that section before..but the hcso who patrols that area don’t really do much enforcement either.

People are stupid. I was doing a service call on a low speed (30 km/h) residential street a few years back. Cones out, lights on and I almost got hit a couple times. I just about swung an 18" adjustable wrench at one ###hat's mirror as he blew past me. Like geeze there's no need to be flying down a residential street at almost double the speed limit.

Him not having cones out to designate a work area is going to hurt the family’s case. That’s required. I’m not 100% certain, but, I thought, if one is blocking a lane of travel, a flagger and signage is required.

A previous employer had a driver hit a worker in a bucket truck. The worker not having cones designating a work area is what cost him his case.

My guess as well. The dash in newer and newer cars is getting crazy. There’s no shortage of stuff to grab your attention not to mention the modern day smart phones people can’t put down.
