Buddy of mine from HS went on his own a few years ago. Started out with 7 axles. I see he's running up to 10 axles now on some loads. Seems like he's always busy.
Where is everyone #5

Not at all for me. I don't like the unneeded long cranks though. I spin over till I get oil pressure, then put some air into the fuel tank until I get return fuel.
Then fire it up -
Tighter than a dolphins butthole and that's water tight.exhausted379, Flint1, cke and 11 others Thank this. -
Its been about 3 years since I've been into an engine and that was mostly head gaskets on little skid steer engines.
Never really did much engine work during my career. Most places I've worked it was more cost effective to drop in a complete engine or do a long block.
At least this sucker has an electric primer pump. Will only need to crank long enough for the fuel to go from the head into the unit injectors. -
I'd crank without ECM power till you get oil pressure. Dad always told me to have a heavy service manual around too after firing up an engine after OH's or pump work, to throw over the air intake and smother it.
Only ever saw one run away, but it wasn't anything my dad or I built. I was running towards it with my metal clipboard when it threw a rod.
The guy who built it sat in the drivers seat and never moved. -
I planned on leaving the injector harness unplugged until it builds oil pressure. I prelubed everything during assembly and I dumped about a half gallon of oil on all the gears in the gear train, as well as over all the stuff in the top end before I closed it all up. Should be well lubed.
Got my heavy clipboard ready too. -
I do the same with oil
-
Most places I worked was the same. If we were dead slow fine. But most of the time we couldn't plug up a bay that long. Last Trans rebuilt took longer to get parts, and parts were about 50% more than are reman guy. Same parts, he just purchased way more than us.exhausted379, Flint1, cke and 9 others Thank this. -
Running the overhead on big red.
Got the 170 t stat in it now too instead of the 190

Guess I outgrew getting nervous, there comes a time you seem to know what to expect. But that doesn’t mean an occasional surprise may rise its ugly head.
Just finished replacing a head on a DT466 today in a toter home, memories of doing an in frame on them during my R&L Drilling days seem to flash through my mind.
When bleeding the fuel lines and seeing the fuel at the injectors, ya just know it won’t be long now…
