Oh I understand what you’re saying, and I too am giddy at times about some things, just not really my Cummins.
But now my big 20 horsepower Bessemer, oh boy lol. Have any idea how to adjust the piston with the exhaust / intake ports…?? A pipe wrench.
But, it’s over 100 years old now and moody as hell lol. That’s the piston standing up beside my Granddauter….

Exactly. Ever been told to toss a few small handfuls of powdered dish soap in a engine. Old timers advise on a 406 sbc on methanol with molly rings. Thing would not break in, methanol just running past rings into oil. Got it good and hot, higher rpm, and dusted it with powdered dish soap. Sealed up right now, lasted 15 races at least. Just had a hard time inducing grit into a fresh engine. Kinda wanna experiment on a gummed up emissions diesel. Not anything someone is driving on the road however.
Great pictures by the way.Flint1, Big Road Skateboard, cke and 6 others Thank this. -
I wish I had that color interior. There is a truck at the junkyard that has it and the cabinets. The truck isn’t wrecked or destroyed inside. I don’t know if I could strip the inside. Seems wrong.
Not sure if you know, our interior color is buckskin.exhausted379, Flint1, cke and 6 others Thank this. -
I don't remember who makes it. Probably alot by now. But you can get a pressurized tank to push oil into the main oil gallery. One could leave valve cover off till you see oil at the top end. I highly doubt any fleet/dealer techs do this. You could make something similar. I've made a pressure bleeder for hydraulic brakes from a lawn sprayer.Flint1, cke, singlescrewshaker and 5 others Thank this. -
Thank you for sharing. One of the best videos I've seen in along time. -
I always worried about unfiltered oil getting places. I would absolutely love being able to see oil coming from everywhere, knowing everything is lubricated.
But my ridiculous anal self would question the cleanliness of oil in the tank. Hell, I question oil out of the jug.
I filter oil I use for lubing pistons, and use lubriplate pretty much on all bearings.
I put filters on dry knowing i built the engine well lubricated, crank till I get oil through filters, and on with life. -
The Adept Ape fella on YouTube is a mechanic at a dealer. He has a way to pre-oil the engine, but I believe he runs it through the filter. He is not a fan of pre-filling filters either.D.Tibbitt, exhausted379, Flint1 and 8 others Thank this.

He's parked next to me at the Petro in Laramie. Pulls a RGN. Had the pleasure of buying him supper and a great conversation. 79 years old and been trucking for 62 of them. Said he rescued it out a junkyard and spent 8+ hours a day for just over a year getting her back on the road. We're on the same crane move that doesn't deliver till Monday if ya wanna swing by for a chat with him. I'm sure you two would get along just fine.

Well I only have so many things to worry about in this life time. I prefill filters and and oil in the jug is fine. You could filter oil before pre lubing if you wanted too.
Were not building a watch.
Ok thanks, I'm now gonna start over analyzing this now.
I knew a super comp nhra racer. He filled filters very slowly the proper way to filter the oil. My question was "Fred" you grenade your engine every few weeks? You think it helps? -
I haven't needed interior panels yet, so no I was unaware of the buckskin nameplate. I like it though!! Maybe, just maybe I'll stop calling it peanut butter now.. lol

Really miss the all black interior of ole Buck. It was like a little cave in that thing.
I feel ya on the junkyard truck. But if it has been set'n there long & has little to no chance of a new life, think of using it guts as an organ donor for yours?? Lmao
CAXPT, JoeyJunk, jamespmack and 5 others Thank this.
