mentoring in canada on the west coast

    The Local Vancouver Docks, require newer trucks and is steady i believe...
    I think I have found a couple contracts... one a local 5 day a week contract around 25k home daily, or another BC driving gig around 28-29k a month. So the local route, i can buy an older tractor... but with the BC gig, i will have to splurge and spend more money on something more reliable. I will keep you all in the loop with my choices :)
    This one person has been willing to share all their knowledge and the ins and outs. It has been a huge eye opener and has shown me that you need to know your numbers first on any contract so you know your profit margins and then you can accept the contract or turn it down.

    Where he lives, hauling around cans is some of the lowest paying work, filled 100% with 'shady' if you will, 'Canadian' business owners, and equally shady 'Canadian' drivers. Stay far, far away from it would be my suggestion.

    Sitting at the port for five hours, all for free, then having to deal with cranky longshoreman will be the least of your worries when the 'Canadian' owner doesn't pay you at all.

    That said, it's not hard work per se... Until you get dispatched a can chassis with landing gear that doesn't work, two flat tires, and a can that has doors that barely open.

    It is absolutely bottom of the barrel work in his region.

    What is being told to you is most likely ########. You haven't even driven a company truck once, so I would suggest you step into the industry with caution with an expensive truck in a low rate region.

    You don't even know if you'll pass your NSC test yet. You have planned for that, right?

    Studying the NSC already… incorporated, bank account set, gas card set, gst set, (and I can drive under another NSC while I wait for mine). Whmis, TDG, first aid level 1 checked off too… it’s a process but it’s moving along.
