So I am borderline about to go by my own truck and trailer. I downloaded and I am paying the monthly subscription for the DAT One load board. I will be operating out of California. So when I look at these rates they say for example 769 miles from ca-ut but also below it says “rate for a reefer include a fuel surcharge of .51c per mile.”
Let’s say the rate is 2.13
Do you add the .51c on top of the 2.13
Or is that really already in the 2.13 rate. If so that’s scary

Is it $0.51, or .51 of a cent per mile?

Well, if it says "includes" then it's included in the rate.

Scary would be depending on the load board in a dead zone. Could you imagine going out there for $2.15/mile, and searching 3 day and getting the best offer of $.80/mile FSC included?

When they say its ALL IN, ya, its all you are getting, included. Similar to infamous line from brokers, "That's all i got in it.... "

Plus on the way back it's gonna be $1 per mile all in, which is even scarier.

On the spot market, it’s an all in. Before you start have a plan. Do you have a customer? If not, and you’re only going to use the spot market, check the rates for your lanes you plan to run. If it’s lower than you like. That means there is little need for another truck. So maybe starting a trucking enterprise and relying on the spot market in California may be not the most brilliant idea to invest your money…

Yeah I’m just thinking of starting a O/O team driving. Any recommendations on good brokers?

That kind of stuff is usually tight lipped. Not smart to lose income.
