It's starting to look like flashing beacon time for sure. Lot of the legal dimension freight just isn't worth pulling..
I've got a line on some lightweight OS, FL to TX. The pay seems good, but 14' wide starting out in the OS world has me a little sketch'd out. I'd like to start at maybe 10'-11' wide? Ease into it, ya know..

I'd agree. Once you get over 12' you start running into more route restrictions and curfews. Do a couple at 10' to get used to permitting, then a couple at 12'. Don't forget things like the GA amber light permit and extended mirrors.
10W doesn't normally pay much more than legal loads, but a little experience before moving up to bigger stuff will be worth it.
Of course, since you're a jump head first kind of guy I wouldn't be surprised to see you running a super load in a couple weeks

Well I got a ticket few weeks back & not looking for another anytime soon.
Wind got under a load of trees & I come into Evanston, WY POE at 14'8" tall after dark!!

They weren't happy, I fixed it on the spot with one strap & was able to keep roll'n.. Should've never allowed it loaded this way in the 1st place, but non English speaking loaders & just wanting to keep moving,, ehhh lesson learned...
But yes, you summed up my line of thinking. Get familiar with paperwork, provisions, permit process, heck pretty sure 14' gonna need escort cars at some point in that trip.. (FL to Midland, TX area)

My first oversize load ever was 14’ and it went through houston rush hour traffic. Don’t recommend lol. It wasn’t bad for me but other drivers are insane. Plus it was “easy” because you can see through the load being reels.

you are going to need pilot car for FL to the Texas line - you should plan $1.85-2.00 per mile plus $100 overnights for a decent one. You will also likely have some to a bunch of out of route miles depending on where it starts and where it goes.
Please make sure you get paid for the risk involved in running 14 wide
Just a tip for those who like to go go go - this doesn’t really work in the OS/OD world - day light hour running , metro curfews and such

If ya wanna start out with some easy oversize loads. Maybe some of those tractors out of Waterloo IA - Its about as easy as oversize gets..they have a lot of stepdecks loading out of there.. I don't envy that trip one bit.

For me, Houston has the worst drivers in the country. Them people drive like animals!! Almost tasted bumper twice going though there being brake checked..
You may already know the rate on this run? Think I asked Jason to run it by you, but can't remember if he ever did.. I passed last time, but am being asked again..

Yeah one really has to stand firm, more so than ever right now. Actually I be finishing my Dubuque load tomorrow, as I had an appt at home today..
Point being is they were moving the 9'11" wide oversize out of there for about $1200 LESS than I got for legal dimension 2 stop. Sure, I have 2 stops but west palm is hardly out of route to Miami. Which is where the OS went anyway..
I can't fathom running legal dimension for what they offered let alone OS, albeit a small OS still don't add up too me..
But either way thanks for the heads up. I'll keep an eye out when in the area. When they get desperate enough to move stuff, money magically appears.. lol
