1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

    You're welcome....I like your 'smiley'...:biggrin_2559:

IMO, I believe the only way to get a good job, hell any job that is not OTR, is it all boils down to one thing....

"it's who you know, not what you know"

...that will get you a job...

    Hey There Guys,
Alot of the big companies do not want drivers who live in south Florida. I have been told two diffrent reasons. This while I was leased to CRETE for 8 years. There is not much outbound freight from S. Florida, and The theft rate on semis is the highest in the nation. So, they say there is not alot of safe parking for a loaded, or even a unloaded truck. We all know that once you are south of FT Pierce, overnight parking, and even long term parking is almost non exsistant. I would park my outfit at the local freightline dealer, and they only did that because of the amount of trucks I purchased thru them over the years. In 1998 I wanted to lease to heartland. All was good until they told me I had to have a PO box in either Jacksonville, or Orlando.
If you want to stay local in Florida try Cardinal. They are a good company to work for and have contracts through the state. They paid well, and even better, they treated me very well.
I wish you all the best of luck,

    Larry

I really wanna have something good to say here, however i don't!! Work is non-existant in Florida at this stage in the game. As a Heavy Equipment Operator and a 3 year CDL holder with NO VERIFIABLE DRIVING EXPERIENCE, i have no nerves left to agitate. I sure hope something, anything breaks free soon. I've applied to companies all over America at this point. But to answer the question, NOPE no good JOB! ! !

how come no one has mentioned anything about the citrus haulers? Oakley, Bowen Brothers, Bently, Ben Hill Griffen have all been wide open trying to keep up with the fruit that's been hitting the ground early because of the frost. And those are just the big companies.

I have applied to a few of the citrus haulers and other tanker companies, even though I do not have a tank endorsement, I let them know that I am very willing to get one, I still do not hear back... I guess they really want experience and a driver from that city perhaps ....~shrug~...I don't know... just my thoughts.

Fruit haulers usually bring back the same drivers year after year, it's seasonal work, almost like the crab fisherman they have a crew every season and that's just the way it is, there's openings here and there but in this economy they're few and far between. And we never hear about them because their drivers are out busting their butts:biggrin_25521: gotta love those agriculture exemptions, haul till ya fall..............
