I had my laptop charging in my cig light through a tiny inverter. I've done it many times in the past when I'm away from power and hook into ECM to do something.
Anyway, I heard a pop and my screen went dim so I knew I popped the fuse in the top 12v lighter plug....bottom one still worked. So I finished up and went to change the fuse and it popped instantly.
Nothing plugged into the 12v socket and it keeps blowing them instantly.
Don't understand why it was working and now won't work at all?
The other 12v plug directly under it still works so must be on a different circuit.

Sounds like the power wire to the outlet has rubbed through somewhere.

Yeah I'll have to pull the dash trim down and take a look behind it. See if something got hot and melted

If its a pete 579 567 or 389 those stupid cig lighters use a plastic peice under the metal plate. It is NATORIOUS for melting amd causeing a massive short. Not a hard fix though and they run $20ish dollars tops. I keep a handful in my glovebox since ive melted them chargeing my ELD tablet.

Start at the cupholders to pull off the trim and you can use a butter knife to help pop it off easier if you have access to one. If not a screwdriver can be used but be careful to not gouge anything. Also depending on how the plastic melted it may need you to crush the old lighter socket to get it off the retainer ring without breaking the ring.
