So….2nd day on the job….truck starts having def system issues. Truck is going 55 mph. Right now in Sioux Falls, SD and need to be in Washington state Monday morning. Trying to coordinate repairs and I just get told to run out there with truck going 55 mph! Been out here 11 years, but that blatant disregard for my safety has really made me want to just pack up and hop on a greyhound home. I do not want to abandon a load because I operate with a level of respect and trust, but what was told to me is pushing me there. Any GOOD advice or wisdom would be appreciated.

    Before you jump ship…

What’s the office jock plans for after delivery? Yes, I understand “HOT LOAD HOT LOAD ABSOLUTELY HAS TO BE THER”, but what’s the plan after? This would have been what I needed for motivation before the regular travel agent went home for the weekend. The nights and weekend people are generally worthless.

A greydog ride from Washington to Michigan is a horrible thought. That has to be a 4 day trip. Dreadful. But, if on Monday they were saying something about driving thetruck back across the country before it gets repaired…?

    Luck in battle, hand.

Trucks go 55 all the time.

Being in the dakotas is not the best area for repairs. Before covid. It was a 6 week wait just to get in a shop.

If it's derating to 55 it's probably going to derate you more and more until you are going 5

You probably have a limit of about 500 miles or 10 hours engine time before you get derate to 5 mph. Then they will have to pay for a tow truck and load will still be late.

I'd love to gloat, never an issue with the old BC, yet I can feel the despair, the person wants to do a good job, and can't, AND, down the line, gets chastised for it, or will. My advice, get to a garage facility, unless already there, and camp out until Monday. Call the dispatch 1st thing Monday, tell THEM to make the calls, and this is THEIR fault for no weekend dispatch and crummy equipment. If they give you ANY hassle, tell them the keys are "in" the truck,,end the call, open the drivers side fuel cap, drop the keys in the tank, THEN hit the silver dog. :salute:

I guess their plan was for me to drive it, but I gave them an ultimatum this morning, fix it or I am out. They are trying to get a rental truck but that was 3 hours ago. My bus leaves at 19:00

Dang, bro—that's crucial! I had DEF issue that happen to me before...well several times, actually. It was like yelling at a brick wall trying to explain to certain ops staff what was going on (like I didn't already know what was causing it). I think they got the hint when I flat-out refused to drive the truck and me, knowing at the time they couldn't find a replacement, finally gutted up the courage to hold out. That finally got it through their heads...and all because the DEF filter itself was bad, even after it had been cooked. (Mind you this was several years ago.)

Anyway...are you still in Sioux Falls? If so, where? I'm on the east side of town now as we spea—er, type...
