Obviously a 10sp 1600lb tq rating. Called KW dealer to run VIN on a perspective truck and guy said it's got an internal cooler...what's the deal with that? I'll assume coolant from the motor runs into the trans to cool the oil...?

Is this trans any good or is the internal cooler a liability?

    Trans cooler is good.

The transmission has separate (tranny fluid) from the engine. It should have a small radiator looking thingy underneath close to the transmission.

A rock flew up and busted mine on the road and I had to bypass the cooler one time. I got it fixed pronto.

if you drive with some commonsence the trans will hold up i haul heavy 7axle setup around 120000 to 132000 with a 500cat and a pitts box with a 16913 trans with 1,300,000 miles on it and a 1760 driveline never tore anything out yet.

check with a good transmission man to see if the 1st gear is strong enough in the FRO tranny, if i'm not mistaken they have small teeth on first gear like 2ed - 10th on other tranny's (not FRO) the first gear has stronger bigger teeth. and maby you don't need first gear but i pull over 100,000 daily. just something to check

Most of the time I'm at 73,000 or slightly less but 80,000 max...and I drive it like I own it, not stole it...dump bucket work by the hour or hopper bottom.

Trans is in a '00 W900 daycab. It's getting pretty difficult to find a fairly low mile (480k), pre-03, decked/spec'd out, big block (6NZ) daycab. When I come across one they're either gone already or spoken for.

Anyhow, I'm not thrilled with a 10sp and it can be swapped someday for a 13 or preferrably an 18sp. The internal cooler deal threw me. If it's reliable, I'm good.

Those coolers can be big trouble.. when they leak the antifreeze mixes with your trans fluid and it dies a quick death. Worst thing is usually by the time you notice the leak, the damage is done. I would stay away from any trans with a cooler.
