Ok so that cooler wouldn't cause your issue. Coolant doesn't flow through it.
What oil did you put in it?
I wonder if you've just found your mystery air leak? Aeration of the oil will cause it to look frothy.Magoo1968, Rideandrepair, singlescrewshaker and 4 others Thank this. -
I put the 50W Trans fluid from the Freightliner dealer. Where do you think air could get into the trans?

Transmission aux section is shifted with air. At least the Eatons are. I'm not familiar with Meritors so I pulled up pictures of a Meritor 10 speed and its got air lines running to the aux section as well.

The splitter slave valve is having issues where I have to cycle the splitter before rolling, or it won’t let me go into Hi gears for 30 seconds.
singlescrewshaker and Big Road Skateboard Thank this. -
Originally was thinking the thick grime on the cooler may have overheated the oil, but the gauge has always been below 150 degrees. Going to research air to trans issues. Thanks for the idea!Big Road Skateboard and singlescrewshaker Thank this.

Because oil that runs too cool presents a number of problems, one is sludge. It is just like running a car just for a mile or two, the oil doesn't heat up enough to boil off some of the contaminants and produces sludge. I had seen this in transmissions and even a couple of axles in my years.
It looks like this is a Stewart Warner gauge that may have the wrong sensor. -
Fyi oil can also get frothy if it’s over filled

Yeah I rechecked the trans oil again, and this time it was normal. I think I did over service it, and it made a small head on a beer sized froth that came out last time. Appreciate the response.
