I dont know that i would say the compressor is where efficiency gain comes from, my cheapo has a variable compressor, the fan autoswitches once its down to temp. Certainly the electronic controls are fancier in household units

But the biggest gain is the refrigeration medium. 410 is just far superior to 134a.

A side note, dometics production is nearly 100% chinesium, just with more time/brand recognition and a more antiquated distribution method and 3x price tag to match

    us apu's run around $14,000...
My generator/portable ac set up was under $1,500. With the warranty I can replace everything with new every 2 years for $500... that's $4,000 for 10 years and takes less than 1 hr and cost zero to move it to a new truck....

A good product is a good product. And seeing as my thermocrap didnt even make it to 2600 hours before throwing a #### rod and this one is nearing 3000 with the only issues being a recall part and as of yesterday a new belt and 1 fuse....it works out good.

There are advantages to the genny on the catwalk or in a box setup with a window AC sure. But there are also advantages to a good custom built product as well plus my green is stupid easy to service. My opinion may yet change but as of here and now good unit good price and good reliability.

Also keeps my truck an icebox even in 100 degree weather. That little toyota sennea AC compressor is overpowerd as hell. Takes a bit to ramp up but once it does it really goes

Mine shipped yesterday and will take about a week to arrive. Then I've got to find time to install the thing. I will be sure and get pictures and results.

    let's see...
$1,199 for the basic unit runs for 5hrs
$699 for extra battery adds 3 more hrs
So for $1,898 it'll run for 8 hrs then 6-8 hrs to recharge... imagine taking a 34... half the time the trucks running to charge it and using the trucks ac...

All if these battery powered ac systems don't cool all the well (I like my truck in the low 60°s)
Will only run for 8-10 hrs before requiring you to run the truck to recharge the batteries... put greater where on your batteries (replace more often) harder on the alternator having to recharge 4-8 batteries. Side note when the alternator is working harder (about 2/10 gl. @ idle)

My generator setup and the extra fuel I carry I can park anywhere for 50-55 hrs with ac/heat microwave tv. And it's cheaper to use and buy.

Pioneer mini split uses very little energy. I get about 8 hours run time per gallon of gas on the generator, and it never spikes or sounds like it ever draws a lot of power. When I run on shore power, it will keep the cab cold regardless of the environment. The problem I run into is that the generator runs hot once it gets near 100F. The heating power is somewhat limited. Once it hits about 30F outside, it can't really maintain interior temperatures above 60F. Above that, it works fine. The only problem I have with the unit is that it has plastic mounting brackets for the circuit boards and components. I run off road a pretty fair amount and it didn't hold up to the bouncing around.
