The safety systems on mega carrier trucks have partly created this problem. I'd much rather gain speed as I approach and only move over when I'm fairly close to the truck I'm passing, but if I did that I'd be triggering critical events and calls from safety.

That’s part of the issue right there,a lot of these trucks nowadays as well as being governed have collision mitigation systems that will slam the brakes on if you get too close to the rear of another vehicle(I’m surprised no one else mentioned this). And if you’re trying to pass someone that’s going slower than you are sometimes you have to change lanes before the systems engage.
(Sometimes as much as a TRUCK LENGTH or 45 seconds ahead).hope not dumb twucker and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
I spent last year delivering new trucks to a new customer's locations. They all had adaptive cruise. I found out that floorboarding it defeated the slow down. I spent more time like with my foot in it than I did on cruise.

The actual cause of this accident was the RV driver attempting to change lanes into a lane they knew was occupied when there was clearly not enough room for them to do so safely.
Furthermore, the possibility of a collision between the RV and the truck in this instance was totally foreseeable by the RV driver and could not have been unforeseeable.
The fault lies 100% with the RV driver.hope not dumb twucker and mjd4277 Thank this.
