Hopper, Dump O/O's & Drivers

    ya put like that its more in perspective. 27% cuts the 1.84 down pretty quick. Crazy thing is ive got a friend that has horrible credit so he is leasing a jet trailer from s&s trailer sales and his rent is 1300 per month. Is that close to the going trailer rental?

    $1300 for a Jet sounds a little high. Those are some STRONG trailers, but you pay for it in the added weight. It's hard to get a good payload on a Jet. As far as what any flat trailer rent goes, 10% of gross is a good standard to adhere to, simply because most standard trailer leases go by 10% of gross. If you can flat rate rent a trailer for less than 10% of your projected gross, then it's a good deal. That $1300 would be more in line for a Wilson, Cornhusker or Timpte in good condition, but I'm hesitant to say he's getting his money's worth out of a Jet unless he's getting a good rate per mile, and plenty of those good paying miles. At that point, it doesn't matter if he's pulling a lead sled, the $1300 isn't a bad deal.

    You bet you should. We don't require our O/O's to pull our trailers, but when we have one that wants to pull one of ours, we'll gladly lease one to them. 9 times out of 10, it's always a better idea to own the trailer you're pulling. Other than tires and brakes, trailers don't cost you that much - especially compared to what one has to give to lease one.

    #### things will nickle and dime you to death in burnt out lights whether you lease it or own it.

    I really dislike this double row of lights, can't see anything at night. When I buy mine, what is the DOT minimum, if it has more . . . eliminated :evil4:

    You're right Pawnd. Actually there are a few trucks around here with those specs. Day cab pete, C-10 engine and cornhusker ultra light. They weigh like 21 thousand. :biggrin_2555:

    Actually on most trips would cover motel with extra for 2/$2 wieners.

    I dunno what the absolute minimum is but mine has two on the front (amber), 5 per side (4 amber, 1 red on the rear corner), 4 tail lights, two brake/turn, and 6 markers in the rear center. I know you only need three markers in the center rear and CA will ticket you for having more than that. Not sure if the lights on the top edge have to be the same, I have a flat.
