I'm trying to remember where I saw the idle aire at a Loves. It was a shock. Oh! I think it was Elpaso TX. I might be wrong but I seem to remember that.

My company isn't all that anal about idle, if it is unreasonable, like 50-60 % or higher, they are going to get on your case. You keep it under 40% and you'll never hear them complain. Personally, I'd rather shut the thing off. I sleep a lot better without that big Detroit up there vibrating me and thumping away.
-
Well, for a while Swift was...........hrmmm......a tad bit over eager about lowering the idle rate.
I'm not going to fib to you Mr. Mustard......I'm a woman and I'm in menopause.....I NEED cold air. And the poor man who is married to me and team drives with me needs a sane wife so he NEEDS cold air too. LOL
If we had to park in a truck stop again and couldn't idle......well I'd sure miss that idle aire.
I do hope a better solution is found and that somehow the issue of parking is resolved. Let's face it; parking is a bad situation in many areas without idle aire even being in the picture.
The closing of rest areas, the limits on hours you can be in a rest area there are so many reasons parking is a problem. -
the only Loves that I know of that had IdleAire was I believe in Ripon, CA next to the Flying J. Also I believe I have never seen them at a J either.

Idle Aire causes parking problems pretty well, for an example the T/A in troutdale oregon, when they put idle aire in there it took up over half of the normal parking making it a pain to park anywhere, and you used to be able to park over by the motel 6 but now there are signs there thats says no parking. there wasnt much parking between there and the J to begin with but when ilde aire went in it really sucked, you cant park on the frontage road across the freeway from the j and t/a and there is only one other spot close to park which is a wide spot over by the airport, and try going to the jubitz yea they are as full as the j and t/a after 3 or 4 pm in the afternoon. so idle aire killed parking at the T/A in troudale oregon.

hahahahaha. But i have seen idleaire at loves. I remember one time back in 08, I went to a loves, and every single parking spot had idle aire. Except...there was no shack, some of the tubes were missing, and none of the tubes at the control unit in the end of them. I thought it was really strange.
You seriously worked for a company that would not allow you to idle your truck at all to provide you the ability to take a 10 hour break? wtf? i wouldve quit instantly. even werner isnt that stupid. -
Personally I liked the service.Too bad they failed. One reason I thought it was a good idea, have`you ever looked at the haze around truckstops at night?Guess who has to breathe that, we all do.They probably had a rental agreement with truckstops so they may have had the right to tell people to move.
-
The truckstops themselves told many many peopel they did not have the right to move.
Its a good idea but if it costs $3 an hour and you still arent making money...it aint a way to make money... -
I agree with you 100%. If there was no where to park, I would nose diving! No one ever made me move thou... "Think that kinda goes back to the crazy eyed look I read about somewhere else in this forum, heh". As for TA, I stopped fueling with them mainly because of their prices.. Now I still park at the TA, but it is only because there is one 3 miles from where I drop on my dedicated, in Montgomery, Al and then on my return run in Livingston, Ca I have one right up the road... And at least Idleaire busted before they got to the one in Livingston. But I would like to see them come up with something, say a little less bulky for those who cannot afford or have apu's.Last edited: Mar 5, 2010
HFC Thanks this. -
First time I used Idleaire was my first time I hit Texas in the spring. I didn't know my truck's A/C unit had gone south because I'd been in the northeast for 2 months. It was 80 degrees in the day, 60 at night and 120 sitting between two other idling trucks!

Of course the company didn't see this as a priority repair so they'd get the a/c fixed "sometime next week" but I was dying! First night I left the fishhook to find a cooler spot on a shoulder down the highway. The 2nd night was in Galvaston. Signed up on the spot.
Landline phone jacks, & TV hookups I didn't need, but internet and a/c? Sure.
And although neither of my trucks had an APU, if I had a choice between Idleaire and an APU (and the company would pay for it) I'd take the Idleaire. I can sleep with the big motor running, but the APU sounds like a lawnmower all night long. Idleaire was nice and quiet.
Also I can't blame people for trying to restart the concept, all the infrastructure has already been invested in.
