Otr daycab drivers question

I saw a listing from a nearby Estes for OTR Driver and realized I have no idea how OTR works at an LTL company.

From what I'm reading, day cabs and hotels seem to be the thing. I'm sure it varies by location, but do you get home a bit more often than standard OTR?

 

Plug in cooler. Meal prep for the week. When I was team driving I lived off grilled chicken and veggies. Snacked on almonds, protein shake and a banana for breakfast.

 

It’s been a rumor for awhile now that Estes was going to switch to that model since they have issues recruiting linehaul drivers. Yet to be seen..

 

Yellow and ABF still do business like this. It was rumored way back in 2013 that ABF wanted to switch to meet and turns, but not much progress has been made in ten years.

 

Teamsters have been dead set against meets for years...A line haul drive doin a lay down gets $45 meal money....bout $900 a month outta their pocket

 

042 Carlisle we lost al lot of lay runs because of meet and turns. Cheaper to have a Ue driver meet us in Stratford Ct

 

when i worked at the now defunct NEMF, i took a "bag lunch" and some snacks

it all fit into an Igloo cooler, that if needed, i could plug into a cigarette lighter plug. it stayed on the floor, in between the driver and passenger seats, for easy access.

then the company paid for motels, and i'd either dine at the nearby eateries, or a truck stop.

my "OTR" as a line haul driver was only over nighters.

another company i worked for out of VA, i did the same thing, but those times, i'd be out maybe "up to" 3 days one week, maybe 2 nights the next.

 

I never got a dime unless it was over 16 hours in the hotel.
