Sliding tandems

Sure. Whatcha gonna do before it gets there? If you'll try our advice in the meantime and pay attention when you scale, you might find that you don't need it by the time it gets there.

 

Find a dedicated spot on your step, you want to move 12 or 24 inches, whatever they are spaced, and place your bobblehead how ever far you want to slide. When your bobblehead's nose is even with your dedicated spot. Bingo.

 

A solution looking for a problem!

Let’s break it down as simply as possible: I have too much weight on one set of axles. I want to slide my tandems to correct that. I figure out how far I need to slide. I move the truck that far, looking at the ground to see how far I’ve moved.

I’ll elaborate: For the purposes of this discussion, let’s say my drives are weighing in at 35k (tandems are at 31k). Obviously, I want to take at least 1k off them, and ideally 2k as that’ll balance out the load nicely. I’ll want to move the tandems 8 holes forward (all of our trailers have holes worth 250 lbs). I look at how far that distance is, even putting my hands apart to get a clear idea, and then I go up to the driver door and measure out that distance on my step by eye (if you’re not good at visual estimation, you can use a tape measure). I sight down to the ground and back the truck up that distance.

I sure don’t need to buy a pin, particularly as it doesn’t help if you need to slide back instead of forward!

 

2 rocks 1st put it below your mirror and 2nd how far back you need to move or how far forward free.

 

I just used the line where the aluminum step connects to the fiberglass fairing and then a spot on the ground (or cigarette butt or paper......whatever).
