Hello everybody!
Hope all of you are doing great!
Me and my husband are driving a flatbed trailer for a last year. I just wondering if someone could share some experience how to get a permits to haul oversize/overweight loads? Does it take a lot of time and patience or are there any tricks in it? How many days in advance should we get the permits and what websites do you use?
Please share your experience!
Stay safe!

All depends on the state
with MA, all I do is log in to my portal once a year and pay them a bunch of money for reducible and non reducible for 99k
you do need to be registered for the weight and have either the origin cert or a dealer cert for the very first permit though -
Each state has a permit department or you can use a service that charges $20 extra per permit. Most states are issued quickly for non super loads. Most states have annual permits available as well. I rarely order more than my first state before pickup because it seems to be very rare the dimensions are correct. If you’re just starting out, it may be worth it to use a permit service in the beginning.

If I’m traveling in multiple states, and the load doesn’t originate in my normal three state lane, I use a permit service. If I load in Utah (where I reside and have an annual blanket permit) and return home for a minute or more, I’ll sit down at my computer and order them myself. Some states require actual axle weight and measurements so you can’t order permits until you are loaded and scaled out. If it’s just oversized and legal weight, I’ll just fill the form out with standard weight and measurements (12,000 on steer, 34,000 on drives, 34,000 on trailers tandem) I have never gotten grief for ordering a permit where I use these weights and I am actually lighter. Some states are a PITA if you are delivering in a suburban area so instead of declaring a final address, I’ll find the nearest major highway and mile marker to indicate final destination so the computer will just spit the permit out instead of being delayed for review (I don’t do this if the load is over 13’6” tall).

There used to be a time when lots of states required you to got though a permit service. Now, at least all that I deal with have a online portal to order them yourself. I have setup accounts on the states I normally run and just order as needed.

Some states or cities take a few days.
