Someday it will be discovered that the "Science" that supposedly reduces pollution actually increases pollution, just of a different type or form. Theres always a negative side to everything that negates or even overcomes the positive. Thats just the way things work.... For every action there is an equal, and opposite, reaction.

Do you mean stuff like this? But it doesn’t matter because it’s halfway around the world from here and we need the minerals to make batteries for EV’s so we can go zero emissions here and save the planet?

 

I hear you. But the end result of is always the same with them. The market does provide a lot of oversight. Improvements to environmental controls were happening pre-epa. The ASME, ASHRAE, UL and many other private organizations hold many companies to task. They set the standard for ultra supercritical boilers, electrical appliances, turbines, and all kinds of complex, dangerous machinery. Many states actually rely on the ASME for much of their regulations. It’s almost like saying, without govt, there would be no safety relief valves or low water cut offs. I disagree.

If you remember the government owned corporation TVA, power companies who visited their facility warned them their ash containment system wasn’t sound and that it would fail. They ignored their warning and it failed. There wasn’t any rush to end govt owned and operated power plants. They did however rush in to regulate ash containment moats, despite those private plants having superior ash containment already in place. Ash is used for road aggregate, Portland cement, drywall and other uses.

I’d much rather the innovation and power of the people vs 535+ people who couldn’t plumb in a boiler, shift an 18, wire a circuit, hand fire a boiler, wax a floor, sew seeds, milk a cow, rig, nor generate an ounce of steam or watt of electricity. It’s hard for the people to impose standards and hold companies accountable when others are showering bad economic actors with subsidies via freshly printed money that robs the people of their purchasing power and voice in said market.

In defense of Liberty, we’re always asked to supply exhaustive descriptions of what would happen if some aspect of our increasingly government-dictated lives were returned to the people’s voices and free choices. Sometimes we just might not know. But I will always prefer dangerous Liberty to peaceful tyranny and a false sense of security on any given day.

 

Put it this way:

If climate change is the greatest security threat to the nation and the world, why doesn’t the military have to abide by all these regulations?

You know that's not how it works. The rules don't apply to them. They just make em for us. Sort of like Bill Gates and all these Hollywood superstars jet setting around the world to point fingers at everyone else for polluting and wasting resources.

 

It’s not “settled science” as some would have you believe. Regardless, if we got our emissions to zero here in the US it would do nothing, because places like China and other places are still pumping it out so much.
Also, a lot of the “green” proposals are more polluting than fossil fuels, like what it takes to make batteries and dispose of them.

 

People that talk about the science being settled remind me of branch Davidians and cool aid drinkers. The core religious belief they hold is that climate is and always has been static for 4+ billion years and the only reason it's changing is because of man. There are no other possible scenarios period, end of discussion.

 

Science by its very nature is never settled. At one time science told us that the earth was flat and in the center of the solar system, among many other things that we now know to be blatantly false. Even as little as 30 years ago we were all going to freeze to death, now we are going to burn up. Also, I might be a little more inclined to believe in global warming if at least one of their “doomsday” predictions would have come true.

 

I'd be more on board with these "green" initiatives if the people telling us what to do actually followed their own advice.

There's world leaders flying to conferences in their private jets that could easily be done over video chat. There's former politicians living on oceanfront property, no concern about rising water levels. They're pushing for 15 minute cities but the "elites" are free to travel as they please. Folks in some cities are forced to endure rolling blackouts all while being told they need to buy electric cars (and you know #### well the "elite" aren't having to endure the rolling blackouts).

If it was truely about protecting the environment (and not money) we'd be forcing this tech on developing countries. The total net benefit for the entire planet would be far greater.
