Do you get 'tips' from your customers to help pay for....? LOL I guess I'm used to co. tractors, take good care of them (other than frequent washing) cause that's way I was raised by Dad, uncles, etc. Your mechanical equipmt is almost part of your family! I've worked on autos most of my life and really do appreciate well-maintained machinery. But, in the trucking industry, drivers CAN get carried away with it---chronic wheel polishing, etc. We drive out in the elements in all kinds of weather. Keeping up a meticulous appearance can take too much $$$! MY company tractor is a TOOL to me...
I admit I've done that but I've seen overboard I am no where near that I just like a rig to look good
What to drive?

Of all the trucks I've driven, I'd say my number 1 pick is the Kenworth W900L, and my second is a Western Star.

If money was no object I would be want (I havent been to trucking school yet so go easy on me lol) a Freightliner Argosy with the 110 sleeper and low or flat top whatever its called. It might be cramped for some but Im about 5'2" 5'3" on a good day lol so a with a big sleeper i might get lost lol. My Dad has had freightliners and a few macks and now is in a pete 379. Personally i dont like the petes ride being a little guy getting the seat pumped up enough to see makes the seat pretty much rigid. Even if I let just enough air in to see every time theres a bump I cant see the highway for about 50-60 feet. His old freightliner classic was nice it had a lower dash lol and looked better but unfortunately being the son guess who had to help polish all the chrome. I will forever hate chrome lol. Ill be the first to have a rat truck lol.

We have to go with WESTERN STAR!

On the Western Star, it would depend on how they are spec'd. My company last bought new Western Stars and they spec'd them so that the drivers given a choice, preferred FLD 120 Freightliners. The mechanics don't like the Stars either but they have improved them in the past two years in that regard. Put the fuel tanks back and get a conventional, not set back, front axle and you can run the fifth wheel farther ahead without running over on the steer tires. The drivers don't like the room in the sleeper, the ride, or the seats.
I prefer the FLC Freightliners , the Century and Columbia, but I like the dual headlights on the FLD for night driving on back roads. The newer ones ride softer and turn shorter, just like the FLC, but the sight lines aren't as good.
