Did a burnout today

Don't feel bad, laddie, you won't hurt the dock any, and a good rule of thumb is, no points for style, whatever gets you agin the dock. Dock stories could fill a book, or they should, and every driver has had their moments. Trouble is, there weren't cameras catching our every move, so we forgot about it, until the next crappy dock. Remember, it's a truck, not a classic car, and can take some abuse. Just don't run into anyone,,,and I agree, lock the axles, as uneven surfaces can cause a "burnout" too.

 

I believe the clutch may be actuated by air pressure.

 

I can’t say I’ve never done something similar. Ive driven a handful of autos, the worst by far being the Eaton 10 speed. I was stuck with one of those for a few months back when autos were just starting to become mainstream. Bumping docks was a real pita with that truck. You could ease on the throttle and nothing nothing nothing, then WAAMMM! Full force clutch dump into the wall. And sometimes it would work perfectly fine.

 

Sometimes it seemed like it had a mind of its own.

It's not the transmission. Transmission doesn't use much air. Driver side front drive has no traction contact and ATC is actuating ABS/ATC valve wasting air. Had it many times. Stupid design.
Solution is simple - lock diffs or use momentum.

 

Never done a wheelie, but had a 1975 359 1/2 track on me multiple times on dry pavement….

 

Oh ok, been wondering. I have helped a few drivers getting parked in the Truckstops, and they seemed to need to stop and build air when doing a lot of back and forth trying to get in a tight spot….

 

Its pretty bad when u get on washboarded out roads.. Back when i was renting a automatic after i wrecked my truck.. Trying to take it up to the rock quarry i had to stop halfway up the road to build air every bump that axle would lose traction and bleed air. What a pain in the ### that was.. Still did it even with the diffs locked in

 

I have seen it too. It's not a transmission. It's a driver who constantly playing on brake pedal because transmission design. Little more acceleration and it will "burn out"
