KC8VJE, thanks for the PM, sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner.I may be interested later in getting that information, but for right now just trying to get all components I need to set this station up. Now have power supply, missing power plug for back of radio & still need to find suitable antenna. Most of the antennas around here are marine band off of boats, may have to order something from internet. Been studying Begineers book of amateur radio cause I didn't think just being able to past test is enough. Did I mention I have OCD?(diagnosed when I was in USCG) I like to research things in depth before I spend too much so now I'm more confused than ever.Gearing up for racing season, trying to finish truck, studying amateur radio & trying to make a living= Owww, my head hurts!!!!!TOOOO MUCH INPUT!!! Anyway, thanks for your help to this point.Later.

    No problem my man,

Just remember to breathe... This always works for me. I'm in a pickle myself right now. Trying to get back to work and staying stressed to the max has taken it's toll on me. Heck, I almost went to the ER last night because my stomach is knotted up so bad from stress.

Also remember, the info is here whenever you need it. I'll look around up here for a good second hand antenna (I'm always trading around), if I find one, I'll let you know.

Antenna? Build your own.............Techs will have some HF priveledges now that Code has been dropped.........

10 Meters Phone (Voice) on 28.300 to 28.500 USB for starters.

Great deal on that IC-746.....Awesome radio.

For lots of ANtenna projects check out :

    Pappy,

I have built 2 desktop buddies. They work very well. The only thing I did different was used a modified banana plug from Radio Shack as my connector for the whip instead of the push plugs mentioned in the instructions. Simply for more strength.

My next project is a homebrew HF Vertical. I just recently built a slinky dipole and it works pretty good.

    Good luck.

Man did you use a gun when you robbed those folks what a steal on a very good radio. A freind has one and spent many hours listening to it and a hiel gold line on the air on 20 mtrs great radio. Now get the ticket and with the code going away i hear Feb.23rd you will just need the genral written and open up a whole new world. My suggestion for antenna for HF is the easiest and cheapest thing you can get. I use a Z11-pro auto tuner and a G5RV over here in the sand box and they work great for 100 watt operations. At home i use a home brew roller inductor tuner and 2200 ft of 12 guage wire in a random loop around 3 acres and boy does it work well for about $40 dollars for materials and a bunch of trees to hang it from and it tunes 160 to 6 mtrs and have made 100s of contacta all over the world with 500 watts. If your limited on space you can make a inverted v out of 12 guage electric wire as well and it works good on what ever band you cut it for. As for mobile operation you said you had some marine antennas check one out you may find out it is wide band and will work on 2 meters aswell i have used them before on 2 meters with good luck since most are no ground required antennas for marine operation. Just a few thoughts and pointers in the right direction i hope.
