Sombody said it if u give them space to merge everything keeps moving. Your already slower anyway. That blocking is what stops traffic. Yea there's always one a-hole to squeeze in if u hit him it's going to cost ya.

You give space if you can do so without hindering other traffic, not at the expense of it.
A drivers responsibility is to merge safely or yield. You cutting left no matter what puts you in the hot seat for when that truck/car/motorcycle beside you, right on your corner can’t or doesn’t find the time to react. Then who is at fault? -
I have had people race past me to cut across in front of me to get to an exit more times than I can count. Quite a few nearly resulting in them hitting another car zipping by in the exit lane.
Last accident I had was in downtown Minneapolis. I was in the right lane going south on I-35W just where it passes under I-94 (known to us locals as "the commons"). Just after we passed the merge lane (traffic from I-94 merging into I-35W) a lady in the left lane moves over in front of me literally inches off my bumper. As she was doing that a F-350 pick up passes me on the shoulder on the right and is doing the same thing on the other side. He sees her, guns it, cuts her off, and I hit the back of her as she hits the brakes to avoid him.
2 state troopers that were at an accident scene on I-94 saw it happen. I think they gave her a ticket for improper merging. This was in 1998. Edit: I might add, if the troopers hadnt actually seen it, it would without a doubt have been "my fault" for "following too close".
Ever since then, at least in Minneapolis, I get in the left lane and I STAY THERE until I get out of town and have never had an issue with it. Sorry folks, nice is nice and all, but I will take being safe over being "nice" any day of the week. 25+ years without an accident. 39+ years without a chargeable. You can say I am wrong, but frankly I dont care. My results speak for themselves...Last edited: Jun 12, 2023
Constant Learner and RunningAces Thank this. -
I'm with you. I drive whatever speed I want in whatever lane I want, and tough titty to anyone who's pissed off by it!
It's not my JOB to be a mind-reader or courteous! Screw em!Sixela918, shatteredsquare, CassND and 1 other person Thank this. -
The self entitlement of this industry is astounding... Anyone with a half a brain knows the left lane is off limits. I guess the rules don't apply to all.

This thread should be titled
Left Lane Zeros..tscottme, Numb, exhausted379 and 2 others Thank this. -
In just about anywhere I've ever driven, that is true. Except Pennsyltucky. These idiots put up a sign saying 'Road work ahead'. That's followed by 'lanes blocked ahead'. And that's all they will tell you. No idea what lane is blocked or where..Savor the Flavor and tscottme Thank this.

Or if that's from work done last month that was never taken down...tscottme and EurekaSevven Thank this.

I know, right?! If OP wanted a relaxing job then he definitely messed up by choosing trucking.
The issue is not what your speed is relative to the speed limit, it's what your speed is relative to the flow of traffic.
If you're not going faster than traffic in the right lane then you have no business being anywhere except in the right lane.Gearjammin' Penguin, tscottme, Numb and 1 other person Thank this. -
The problem is that the AHs in the ending lane don't want to zipper merge. They want to cut in front of everybody, hell that's why they got into the ending lane and passed everybody in the first place, so as soon as they get to the end of the lane they force their way over into the line of traffic instead of waiting for someone to make a space for them.
There's a reason why safe, unentitled drivers merge well before the lane ends - and it's not to give AHs a runway.Sixela918, tscottme, Vampire and 1 other person Thank this.
