OK guys, so I’m wanting to figure out if there’s a way that I can still hear people that are relatively close to me without having to turn my squelch all the way down to the point where I’m listening to static all day just to hear people near me? Does that just mean I need a better high-end radio or is that normal no matter what radio you have? Using the stock Cobra 29LTD Chrome with new coax going to a 6ft skipshooter. No grounding straps yet.

Try a speaker. I lost a lot of static and could go lower on squelch without the noise

    Brianjr323 Thanks this.

But won’t that cut down my receiving range? Shop told me to keep that up?

So I just turned my RF to about 3/4 of the way and my squelch is about 2/4 and I got a response about 2 miles out so I still don’t know if Im hearing people right beside me tho or not

If someone is right beside you, the squelch can be near all the way up and they'll still break through. It sounds like you're turning it too low, especially if you mostly want to hear nearby radios. The higher the squelch, the shorter the receive distance. Turn it down to hear weaker signals from farther away.

    Brianjr323 Thanks this.

The more left my squelch is the more I can hear ppl close to me correct? Now that I have it like that how’s it going to affect the further away ppl? Will I still hear them clearly as well?
