IMG_4149.jpeg Same old project that I’ve been working on for my FIL. Got the timing figured out and proper cam follower gaskets are installed. Replaced water pump and now ready to install the accessory drive and PT pump. Put new a new accessory drive bushing, O-ring, 2 seals in the front cover. Ok, I installed the accessory drive and bolted it up. Are the two punch marks on the accessory drive gear in the correct relation to the hash marks on the cam gear? If so, does the injector push rods need to be in certain stroke before aligning these marks together? Or, is there no timing necessary, just line the marks up and bolt it up?

‘77 4070B style. Ha, I’m just kidding. In all honesty I’m not sure of the different styles. You better bring me up to date.

    Single single or twin cylinder??

I have an original compressor with the IH tag on it, thought I’d save it for a potential future project lol. Have the accessory drive pulley with the IH casted in to it as well…

I’m pretty sure it’s a single. I’m headed to the shop now and I’ll take a pic for you. Bear with me, sir.

    Yep it’s a single.

I can’t remember off the top of my head the correct procedure, so when I get home this evening I’ll get my manual and find the timing procedure for that compressor. Cummins recommends they be timed with the engine….

You have the one cylinder compressor so it’s best to have the timing mark line up but not going to prevent it from running but if the timing is wrong it’ll make more work when you want to do anything with the overhead. is the round pin key thing for the pulley straight up? Seems like those are the marks you see through the pipe plug in the front of the cover. I haven’t had one apart that far in a while.
there’s separate markings for the crankshaft timing correct?

With the camshaft to crankshaft timing marks lined up the accessory drive timing marks should
line up as well and the key in the accessory drive shaft should be facing straight up. This is
important in order to set the top end properly. Cummins used to have a timing procedure for their
single cylinder air compressor but later they said it did not need to be timed.

Yes, “0” to “0” for cam to crank.
