I found this radio on ebay, I have never owned something this expensive!
    ebay item # 270542095971

Is it too much? I now have a Cobra 29ltd, is this too complicated?

Thanks for what ever input on this radio that the readers here can offer.

    Seems like a good deal.

    Thanks

That's a RCI 2950DX. If you talk a lot of single side band, it is the perfect radio. Both the 2950DX and it's bigger brother the 2970DX are said to be the most stable radios on the single side band.

However if you only use the typical 40 AM channels like what your 29 LTD covers (and like what most truck drivers use), then you're better off sticking to what you have, or if you really want an ### kicking AM radio, look into a Stryker 440, or a Connex 3300.

Just know up front the RCI 2950DX radio is not a real CB radio; it is an export radio (aka illegal to use on the CB band) as are all Connex and Stryker radios, to include the models I posted. In short, none of them are FCC approved and allow you to access the 10 and 12 meter bands, which if caught on and using w/o the proper license can be subject to a $10k + fine. Not trying to scare you, just letting you know.

Also for what it's worth you can buy that very same radio from Sparkys right now for $240 brand new, tuned and aligned.

I'm wondering if the light color was changed or if they slapped a DX face on an older version 2950 ????

The 2950, 2950DX are HAM RADIOS ..... Now TRUE many are being used as " EXPORT " sets but unmodified they cover 10 meters quite nicely .... Years ago i had both of them and a 5054 too.

To use the 12 meter band you must hold a general class license the 10 meter band requires only a tech class but both require a license unlike CB.

They are not too bad on SSB and so-so on FM un on 29.600 mhz ( general class required ) and if your going HAM not at all a bad starter set ......

Thanks WA4GCH, wonder how well a 2950DX stacks up against one of those Uniden 2510's?

The 2510 lacks some features of the 2950, but can be had with the aftermarket Chipswitch. With the Chipswitch installed I would rate the 2510/2600/2830/Lincoln above a 2950.As long has not been hacked, either one will provide good service on 10 or 11 meters (all though not certified for use on CB/11 meters).

PS The 2510/2600/2830/Lincoln will work 12 and 15 meters with a Chipswitch, this is a bonus if you have a general class or higher amateur radio license.

Just to add some info to what WA4GHC said, technician class licensees can only operate 28-28.5 MHz

I have had both and both are good radios I chipswitch my 2510 and it was about equal to the 2950 . The 2950 only covered 10 meters The 2950DX 10 and 12 and the 5054 was a 6 meter Ranger.

I NEVER found anything wrong with them on SSB but when I bought the FT-100 No longer needed them. Since I run FM on 10 meters I found a small FM radio to run that mode a DR-03 Alinco.

I've found that the HR series of radios have a slightly better receiver and less prone to man made noise. You can't go wrong either one.
