I don't think my contacts would do you a lot of good. It's a totally different kind of trucking. I wish you every success though.

    Great deal. How bought ecas?

Over the dd15 is a decent truck. Just make sure you get the filters in the one box replaced or cleaned before 500k miles. Unless they did it for you. And keep up on the soft where updates about every 18 months 175.00 in ohio. And once it hits 690k to 710k. Have 10 to 15,000 set aside.

    IPOP Thanks this.

You think maybe he should have 10-15k set aside right away for a half million mile truck?

I've never bought a truck before but I've read through plenty of threads on these forums about guys buying half million mile trucks then sitting in the shop. Seems like a lot of them crap the bed after a half million miles, which might be why fleets all turn em in at that point.

I point out engine hours because it seems funny. Has anyone heard of a truck that tallies hours only at idle, separate from total engine hours? I guess I didn't know that was a thing. If that's a true and accurate number, that doesn't seem too high. What I would be looking for is evidence that the truck was idled for every ten hour break instead of using a smart idle system or better yet an APU. Long idle times are what will mess up your emissions. Does this truck have an APU or a smart idle start/stop type of system?

Yes, the ecm will show idle time either as the actual hours or as a percentage of total hours.

If you buy a used truck it might be a good idea to go ahead and tune it up a bit. A lot of sensors can be replaced pretty cheaply and easily. If you can afford it get a new dpf filter (not used baked), and have them replace all the sensors while they have it apart. Might skip the Nox sensors just because they are around $400 each if I remember correctly. Then go ahead and replace the 7th injector, the little def filter in the pump and IMAPS sensor. Do the air dryer while you're at it, if it's a fleet truck it may not have ever been changed.

Rough estimate for all that if you change the easy sensors to get to yourself might be like $3000? Worth it to not have constant problems while on the road in the middle of nowhere.

Check out rawze maintenance series on youtube. He goes over most of them if it's a cummins.

Ok. I would still go ahead and get the total hours. Subtract idle time to see how fast the fleet was running it.

Can you tell what fleet this came from? Or what type of trailer it was pulling? These are questions I'd be asking.

    IPOP Thanks this.
