It’s still the same scenario though. It still causes traffic to bottleneck and pile up. Maybe not as bad, but it still does it.
I’m honestly not upset with you. I know training in the last decade or so they tell you guys to hang out in the center lane. That’s only because it reduces the companies liability. It has nothing to do with making the roadway safer.
That’s the gripe and that’s what people mean about courtesy. Years ago CR England would tell their drivers to be a “rock in the stream”, but what does a rock in a stream create? Dangerous bottlenecks and rapids. -
Not really concerned if you're upset with me. Your example is also based on an unusual situation that has an easy out when there are three lanes. There is also the fact that your scenario doesn't account for when such a thing pops up someone in the middle lane can switch to the right until the congestion your oversized self is causing is cleared up. It's not an all or nothing thing.

Maybe we can boil this down to one phrase everyone can remember
GETTING PASSED ON THE RIGHT?
YOUR #### AINT TIGHT
At least that the sort of thing we would have come up with in the service back in the day to get everyone on the same page.
Lets come up with a few of these since there are so many creative drivers here with time to cogitate while driving !Sixela918, gentleroger and Jubal Early Times Thank this. -
Yeah, I’m tapping out of this conversation. You clearly are unwilling to consider that you may be wrong. Have a nice life.

I realize all the fireworks in here were a week or more ago, but you smooth brain middle lane folks need edumacted.
You know who has the lowest death rates on their freeways? It's Germany. They also are fairly draconian on enforcing proper move-right lane discipline. Those two items are directly related.
I did a thread on this awhile back. Your safety department is lying to you about always running the middle lane. It's not about improving safety, I. E. decreasing accident rates, it's about reducing liability. And if you don't understand the vast gulf between those two goals, I'd suggest some pondering time over a cold beverage.
In the meantime, I would encourage you to move yourself as far right as possible whenever feasible.
BTW, because I know someone will throw out the BBR tag: Don't be jealous, many of us old guys are better than you young guys will ever have to the chance to be. We have experience in conditions most of y'all will never get to experience behind the wheel.
Personally, my only incident in a truck was minor lane change accident in 1988, damage to the truck was the lug nut covers. And that was directly related to a very naked wife (mine) enjoying the warmth of the doghouse in a double bunk cabover Pete. That was 35 years and ~4 million miles ago. Hell, I haven't even had a ticket since the 55 days. So you can stuff your BBR crap right back where it originated. And no, I don't expect accolades from the crowd like the lunch counter heros, just understand that we know the heck we're talking about.
And move your ### over! -
There is no place to go because you have traffic bottled up close and tight! Cars/trucks on both sides trying to get around you takes the option of someplace to go away without an at fault on your part for hitting someone beside you as you cut left or right. Probably say you haven’t seen that in your 4 years but trust me it happens more often than you think. The last time I saw it the middle lane driver also got a hit and run because he was so blind to everything except himself he didn’t even (or at least claimed) to not know he hit someone with the tail end of his trailer.RunningAces and Jubal Early Times Thank this.

For all the different schools of thought on this, it still seems the only winning move is to run at night: then it doesn't matter, because there's hardly any traffic on the road at 3 am anywhere.
RunningAces Thanks this. -
Wish I could but as I get older these new lights start bothering me after awhile, not to mention the ones running high beams or auxiliary lights constantly.
-
God, yeah, some of those LED lights should be labeled as cruel and unusual punishment by the government when they're left on. Blinding.
D.Tibbitt, Oxbow and PaulMinternational Thank this.
