I'm glad I found this site, what a wealth of information! I graduated from a local 4 week class in Tacoma, WA a couple of weeks ago and now I'm on the streets looking for work. I still have a full time maintenance job so no big rush, but I'm ready to make the change. I'll be reading thru the posts for a few hours looking at what everyone has to say about the training companies out there. Any input would be welcome. :occasion5:

Welcome, welcome to the forum. You had the same response I did when I first found this site - "what a wealth of information." As you look for work especially concentrate on the good and bad company sections. Lots of people gets axes to grind with companies, but if a company has similar posts over and over do beware. And typically you will find good and bad comments on the same company. Read and consider everything you read and go with your gut and your knowlege when the time comes. Remember people lie - often recruiters, so just beware and be wise. I'm glad you have joined us here. Enjoy the learning.

Thanks for the welcome. For now I plan to do a lot of reading, probably not much posting until I learn a bit more about the biz. From what I've heard from recruiters so far, they aren't hiring very much in Washington. CRE (no chance) and Central Refrigerated (some chance, but need to lear more about them) are the only two that have shown any interest in hiring me. I'll give updates as they happen though. Thanks again for the welcome.

Welcome to the forum! Having a job while you look for the right carrier is a definite plus. I'll be going to driving school at a community college this summer unless I opt to go to a carrier's school. If I go the community college route, I can do it this summer while I'm off from my job as a school bus driver. If things don't work out right away with finding a good OTR situation for myself, I'll just go back to driving the bus until things work out in my favor. Take your time!

P.S. Did your school teach or talk about CSA 2010?

Well, ..... actually there is a time frame to consider.
If you wait too long, your CDL-A will become stale and companies will not recognize it without refresher courses.

Other than that, welcome to these forums.
There are many here who can and will answer your questions.
As soon as you've read enough, they'll be ready to read any questions you have and offer their expertise.

Nothing about CSA 2010, I thought that was strange. I'll check out the employment link and threads to start learning about these carriers. I don't think I want to be a long term OTR guy, maybe a few years and then a nice local job if there is such a thing.
