In the 1980s I lived in an area like that in Brooklyn. Fifteen years later that street was lined with foodie destination restaurants, and now you can't touch a brownstone there for under $3.5 million. So things do change.

Another BIG issue about parking a rig curbside in any big city (Philadelphia more so than most, and I'm a 6th generation Philadelphian by birth..) is cargo theft. You can add all the locks and straps you want, but all that's going to do is slow them down if they want to break into your trailer. When I used to park near my house, it was only when I had either a low-theft-value load (like bales of rag pulp, of 5000 lbs roll of paper), or when I was running empty automotive racks to the auto interior panel factory down in VA I used to serve. I'd leave the right door unlocked. I WOULD, however, lock the left door; once I drove past my truck and both doors were open (the trailer was empty..), and the left door was swinging into traffic...

I’m black, I grew up in an upper middle class suburb and I’ve lived in the hood as an adult. I’m not clutching my pearls over people asking for change nor glass between me and the cashier so none of that makes me uncomfortable and scared. But like I said, I’ll do a regional then find a local after the experience. Or an LTL with Central TransportThe Crossword Trucker Thanks this.

I understand not being fearful in bad neighborhoods, but I also feel there is a cumulative negative effect that happens if you spend too much time in places where you have to remain vigilant
I believe that just being in the presence of drug addicts and criminals is very bad for your health in ways science has not discovered yet .
Until we find ways of helping these poor souls out of their misery , we should stay as far away from them as we can.Chinatown Thanks this.
