As a guy who went through a period when I took any job that paid, don't get too wrapped up in it. I often neglected things like the 2 weeks I worked for a siding contractor who turned out to be a drunken idiot, and just made the forgettable jobs before and after line up to cover it. I'd still rather take a cr@p job rather than collect unemployment, at least for a while.
Once you become a federally registered commercial driver, though, keep your DRIVING jobs straight, because THEY know about those jobs. As far as working in a diner or a hot-dog joint, they really don't care. -
Regardless of if you lied or not. That's not the issue. Carriers are required to ask an applicant to account for the time. This 10-year history is broken down to mean 3 years of recent history and up to 7 years of driving history if you have a CDL. The FMCSA does NOT care what you were doing during that time. You could have been running a Nevada Brothel for those 3 years. What is not important, the time is. Listen, even if you were in jail for a year, you are accounting for your time. Because I know several guys that had jail time for not paying child support. they listed the time spent in jail and the carrier accepted it. The only question they had was are you under garnishment?
It amazes me that this very simple part of the rules seems so complicated.Chinatown Thanks this. -
90% of the companies will really only care about your last job and your driving history.

100% of the companies care about compliance with part 391. These days carriers are left with thousands of $$$ worth of fines after FMCSA audits of the required files are found to not be in compliance. A very good friend who is in the safety dept of a top 25 carrier just told me about a fine they were left with because somebody dropped the ball and allowed incomplete information to be placed in the driver qualification files of several drivers. That person no longer has a job! That is fine per violation! Recently another smaller carrier got hit with a lot of HOS fines because of a bug in their logging software.

I wouldn't even worry about jobs you had while in high school. Those are easy to explain, worked in the summer, couldn't work during sports season. I'd just lump all of those together as various part-time jobs in high school when your schedule allowed. None of those jobs are going to show up on any records anyway. There are plenty of people that don't even work while in school.
So, then all you need to keep track of is the stuff after you graduated. #Chinatown told you how to handle that. -
You cam lie about your entire history and still get elected to congress. Just ask George Santos...he used to be a space shuttle door gunner before he was the pope.

Who's fault is that? Generally speaking, this is not a political forum, but I think saying when people fail to vet someone or not caring who they vote for in an election is one of the most imbecilic things a human can do is OK here. This applies to BOTH sides of the political spectrum!
I'm going to tag @brian991219 and @ZVar now.
A person is free to lie through their teeth on a job application for a company that is highly regulated by the US Federal Government! If that carrier is not following the rules set forth in part 391 it is even possible to get by with it.
Before I continue I need to stop and remind everybody reading my comment that there are no rules that I know of that mandate an applicant to have a gainfully employed job history! Somehow this myth has found its way into the hiring process. You must account for that time. If you spent the last 3 years in the south of France chasing women, eating cheese, and drinking wine, well that is what you were doing. A carrier is free to hire you for carrier-financed training OR send you to a refresher course. If you have CDL driving time in the past 7 years before that you should also list that. I know of a driver that was hired for school after finishing up 5 years in a State Prison. So in all honesty there is no reason to lie on an application. Even if you have a history of working under the table. This is a bit of a tough situation though, but for the purposes of part 391 it's history.
STOP listening to truck stop Attorneys and start filling out applications. List your job history as completely as possible. I am 100% positive you will find a carrier that actually knows the rules and will hire you!
Here is the problem! Gosh, forbid you to get involved in a fatality accident. This is when you can get found out if you lied. This is when a carrier will be paying out settlements as well as fines.brian991219 Thanks this. -
And it appears that the OP didn’t premeditated lie on the app.
not being sure of some dates that occurred years ago isn’t an issue .
the trucking company just has to account for the time on the paperwork .
if you worked at business A until March and then switched to business B , but you can’t remember and wrote down that you switched companies in June , it’s not an issue , -
I was not speaking directly to the OP. I was making a general comment!
