Frieghtliner century classic: question

From 1996 to 2010 they could have came with a variety of engines and HP and the early models would NOT have had any type of EGR system. Could be cat, cummins or Detroit. And power levels from 300 to 550.

 

04 and later detroits had EGR. Isx had egr, CAT, I can't answer.

 

I believe CAT was ACERT (Advance Combustion Emission Reduction Technology).

 

Real basic rundown would be based on EPA requirements for engines.

I think it was EPA2004 that requires EGR.

EPA2007 was when DPF was put into the mix.

EPA2010 was SCR/Def introduction

Engines may sit in storage for a bit so you could find a 2005 truck with a 2004 engine. and then there a gliders out there.

 

Drove a 2000 century with a Detroit. No def. Probably the best company truck I ever drove.

 

Why worry about EGR anyways? It's a pretty easy thing to fix or make fall off

 

Because deleting the EGR is a violation of the Federal Clean Air Act? And the EPA has been going after and shutting down shops that do the deletes or sell kits.

In theory shops are not supposed to release a truck with an illegally modified emission system until it has been repaired.

Better to purchase a truck with an emissions system you are comfortable maintaining.
