@D.Tibbitt Once you get in and have your permit you can call ahead to the next POE and ask to bypass. They have always let me keep rolling. They just verify Permit number. Keeps from having to do unnecessary stops if you want to avoid them. I always just call them about 10-15 minutes before I get there.

Yes definitely call ahead and get that pre clearance number. They will also give you a route to get to the scale. On 90w..... I had to get off the exit and run the service road for about 8-9 miles to the scale house........not sure why there was no construction

Good help is hard to find, but such a blessing when one is able to get it. (Good help)

Mirrors! Make sure you can see your mirrors standing at the back corner of your load. They are real sticklers about running mirror extensions.

Wyoming is definitely different but once you know the process it is not a big deal. One thing to note is to be sure you are entering the state at a time the Port of entry is open. Some of the Port's are only open Monday-Friday 7am-7pm.

If the first one you would come to is closed call the next one on your route.

I repowered a load over a weekend that was at a tow yard in the middle of the state. At first they wanted me to go to Laramie until they realized they were closed until Monday. Cheyenne 80WB gave me a clearance number to get to them from Rawlins. Had to go past them to the next EB exit, flip around and go back west to get my permit. Then go to the next exit and go back east again into Nebraska.

@Razororange pretty well answered this, but you can get a clearance number from any 24/7 Port. If you are not going to go through a Port, and it is a standard OS/OW permit that doesn't have to go through Cheyenne (superload), you can usually purchase the permit over the phone and they will email it to you. I have had to do this several times when loading in some remote part of the state and coming out through Alpine on a weekend. I'm not sure if they still do it, but you used to be able to buy them from a WHP officer as well.

That was my next question. Usually if Im westbound on 90 I would take us212 from SD - MT and wy is like only 20 miles that route . And that route cuts off a good 60+ miles vs just staying on i90.. Was thinking how do u get a permit if u have to stop at port to do it? But on us212 there is no wyoming POE I don't think... I could be wrong though
