I'm based out of Illinois and my day cabs don't run in Cali, I have 0% of getting nailed.

EPA law, so far no state but Cali has CAARB and EPA trucks out there checking anything.

Not a single shop in America but a dealer will ever check your DEF status. How long have you been doing this, clown? Spreading misinformation online is a hobby for you or something?

My local Peterbilt dealer makes you sign off that your emissions aren’t deleted before they will finish checking your truck in. With the millions in fines that have been handed down over the last few years more and more shops won’t touch a deleted truck. It’s not worth it to them.

    Siinman and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

Both sides are correct. We just saw the moronicism that is the 2027 EPA laws pass so eventually im expecting a federally mandated emissions check at a minimum here within a couple years. Plus with how heavy fines are, finding REPUTABLE shops who will work on modded rigs is getting harder and harder. If you break down someplace you best hope one of the shops in your area is willing/able to help and is not out to screw you. Hell we see people here on this very forum who BRAG about turning in deleted rigs and intentionally flashing the computers even if its not needed just to screw them.

Additionally a lot of these shops will be cash only and do everything under the table shadey style with no way to hold them accountable. What are you going to do? Cry to the gooberment that the shop worked on your deleted rig ####ed it up and with no recipt in hand? Shop just gots to say they declined to work on a deleted truck and they are in the clear, meanwhile you get fined. And yes while no one is currently checking MOST places, you also never know when they will start. Especially as the cali style detectors get ever cheaper and the "rewards" for catching modded rigs get ever better.

That said there ARE still shops that will work on your rig and do so reliably. I know several and have strong relationships with a few. They also are only enforceing the law in select areas CURRENTLY so the risk of getting caught is fairly low.....CURRENTLY. and its no secret modded rigs in general run far better longer and cheaper then emissions rigs.

So while yes both partys are correct. Running deleted is a gamble. If its a hailmary go for it. If you just dont care go for it. If you wanna stick it to the "man" go for it! But keep in mind eventually the government is going to close the noose around your neck. Its not IF anymore, it is WHEN. Maybe the gamble pays off maybe it doesnt. I aint your dad, you figure out if the risk matches the reward.

/shrug my opinion even having a modded rig, is i still think only an idiot mods their rig. And yes that includes myself, especially if they wanna stay in this game long term. Go old iron, ploink a pre emissions motor in or go new. Skip the used emissions garbage.

Siinman and Long FLD Thank this.

If you aren't from CA get a Glider Kit. You can find plenty of Columbia and Casketia gliders. Leave the overly complicated and unreliable EPA rigs to the big fleets. It's tough enough to make a living out here, want to add check engine lights, derates, dealer Service department drama and DEF costs on to that?

Also no l would not want one because those models are targeted by thieves for their BCMs and Frieghtliner put the main computer under the passenger side dash where a leaky windshield or clearance lamp housing will let water down there to fry it.
