Ivan probably go the load from TQL and double brokered it. Id look for info on the rate con, bol, etc to make sure if he actually had the load from a real customer or got it from another broker.

I deal with people who will pay me detention to stay and wait or allow me to leave and collect a TONU. I don’t sit waiting for a response..ignore me and I’m gone.

What would you do, same as the op, sit and twiddle your thumbs hoping for the best, lol.

He probably sat waiting for $0.85 per mile freight :)

I get being upset about the shenanigans with the shenanigans regarding the pickup appointment being 4:00 or 6:00PM, but why would you be mad at the broker about long load times?

Typically over here if you leave, we don't pay you a TONU or any detention. We are always in communication with driver/shipper/customer to make things as smooth as possible. But unfortunately, the quality of the shipper/receiver has declined significantly since the pandemic, and anything at the border can be tricky to get across exactly when you need it. Each customer is different but detention on a load with an appt starts anywhere from 1-4 hours. Typically dont pay detention on a FCFS near the border either. Carriers like to show up at 10:00, knowing the load wont be ready until 15:00, and then expect to get paid for 5 hours waiting.

As far as what i would do? id sleep cause lord knows i dont ever get enough as it is, so long as it paid at least .96 cents per mile. ;)

You communicate, that’s the key right there. Unfortunately the OP had a broker that just stuck his head in the sand and ignored the situation.

Two hours passed appointment and I’m on the phone..ignore me and I’m gone.

I’ve had shippers lock me to the dock at appointment time then stall loading the trailer.

Been more than once I’ve told them to take whatever crap they already loaded and remove it.. One for JB I had zero problem leaving because I knew getting detention was slim to none. What’s funny is that JB didn’t give me a hard time about it and continued booking loads with me.

I would agree 100 percent. Not once have I had that kind of issue with the brokers I normally work with. If I show up and they act like it is gonna be a very long time I tell the broker the deal. He will work his magic and then tell me what he can do or tells me don't waste your time since that client hates to pay detention. Always a win win when you have a good relationship with the broker you work with.

Even got an extra $150 bucks on a rate con today when I booked a load with him today. I lowered my bid and he could had taken it but instead went off of what my original bid was since the client ok it after I said to counter cheaper. I enjoy working with Solid people that have integrity.

That’s why I always leased my rig with a company that had their own direct cuts ones , 2000 of their own trailers and ran a 250 mile radius of their terminal and shipped the trailers long distance on the railroad .

we got X a day for showing up to work , Y cents a mile , Z per stop , detention after three hours, and if it looked like we were going to not get loaded in 8 hours , dispatch would just have us return to the terminal or send us somewhere else to load . It all paid the same , loaded or empty . We got paid extra for working Saturday and Sunday too .

yeah I could have made more $$ with my own numbers and using a broker , but the stress just wasn’t worth it .
