All three of my kids own their homes, at 27, 25, and 24, and they didn't get it from me. The majority of their friends are in the same position.
Most of these kids also grew up in low income homes, no college education, etc.
The only thing I see very, very, different, is using excuses (and everyone allowing it) to make failures acceptable
Left lane heros

Yeah, your right. I need to re-think my strategy now. I wonder what the OP would do if he caught up to me in the left lanes doing 45 in a 45-construction zone, with NO lane restrictions, but I just didn't feel like dealing with merging traffic.

Are we talking here mobile homes?

Boy howdy, that was a good one. Unfortunately, the appropriate response would get me banned.

Comparing interest rates alone with no other context is just as ridiculous.
Boomers and early Gen X (like myself) by far had an easier time in the working and middle class in this country in our younger days. Yeah, younger generations these days have a lot more tools at their disposal than we did. But the opportunities to employ them in don’t exist like they did for us. In our day, a Bachelor’s degree guaranteed a good job no matter the major. Not the case these days. Even people with PhDs have a hard time getting ahead. Any thoughts contrary come from heads buried in the sand.
Some of it is the inevitable march of technological progress. Another part is “got mine f you” mentality that nearly everyone my age and older has. And that ties into the large part, greed. Greed has destroyed so much of what we used to have at our fingertips as far as working and living. From the individual to the large corporations, the greed in this country I pray will be its undoing. It’s deserved at this point.
Life is easy when viewed through hindsight. Congrats on your son and his wife for scoring in the midst of some of the easiest money in lending history. Others were not as lucky or prepared at that time to take advantage of those low rates. Sure, some of them will now suffer for it from their own failings and shortcomings in life. But the vast majority are those who were just unlucky to arrive late at the party.gentleroger and Constant Learner Thank this. -
Like in the last three years where employers were begging for help, at ridiculous wages? Yeah, some just late I guess.

Somebody mentioned in the 70's that a person could take their annual salary multiply it by 2 and that would buy their house. I look at my own situation and that holds true, for me at least, in 2023. So nothing has really changed? Just perceptions? Prices have risen but so have wages?

45 construction zone through [redacted] corridor while everyone else is going 70, or 45 construction zone though OH/PA turnpike?
