At 28 years old i find other people in my generation complain about everything that involves work. They rather go out and hang out with friends and party and spend money instead of save it.. Then they complain their useless degrees that they are in 100k in debt make them no money and want to complain to the world how hard life is... Meanwhile all the trades are struggling to find work..but that work is beneath these type of people because they have a degree and think they deserve better... It took me 5 years to graduate HS and that was mostly because i was busy working at 16 years old and didnt have time for school and yet i have still made a good living for myself in the last 6 years by going into trucking... How many shops i go into everyday that are understaffed and offering decent salaries and full training and tool set to start with and they cant find anybody to work... That is just 1 example but that really exists everywhere... Except there is no shoratage of office monkeys thinking they are to good to get their hands dirty and do actual work.
Me and my brother both went into business for ourselves and i would say we would both credit our parents and how they raised us to always think for ourselves and create our own opportunities... My brother and his wife both went to college and they are much more successful then me in what they do.. And make more money..They have a big house and looking at buying bigger.. And i can tell you nobody gave them that money. It was all worked for..Point is we are all the same generation, but act much different then the majority of people our age.. if i ever went to my bro with the woe is me mentality, growing up or even still to this day. he would kick my ### and tell me to shut the hell up and get to work. just as a big brother should... I think theres alot of people my age that need that type of treatment and they would suddenly find how much opportunity is out there in the world...

There are many areas in this country that have experienced exactly your situation in your area and worse. Why you believe your area is an exception is something you’ll need to explain for the rest of us.
I never said “Boomers” were buying up all the property. You can check the receipts or I can provide them, but you will not put words in my mouth. What I did say if you paid attention is that Boomers and folks my age had a lot easier time to get started and grow in. When I was growing up, one income households were standard. Not so much anymore.
Trucking is the perfect comparison to working and middle class people today. Rates are stuck around what we were making in the 1980s. Our operation was certainly easier to run back then. We didn’t even consider fuel mileage. It was a cost of business we passed on to the customer. Much like back then a family of four on a single income had a 3 bed 2 bath home, plenty of food for the whole family, vacations every year, new car every few years, good doctors etc.
Now I’m going to posit a counter to “many young folks are doing great”. Why is the birth rate dropping? Why are most Americans paycheck to paycheck? Why is suicide such a prevalent cause of death these days? If that’s your “doing great” then Hell may be cozier than your “doing poorly”.
For folks flapping their gums about how the young folk are doing, y’all are surely ignoring all the obstacles they face and how those obstacles outnumber and out scale what we faced.
This country peaked in the 90s. -
Luckily I only had one that wanted a waste for a major. I refused to pay unless it was to my liking! She refused so I used her college tuition to put a very grateful niece in for her start at a law degree.

I dont think there is much obstacles for my generation other then the ones they put in front of themselves... The barrier to entry to get into anything nowadays is so low because of technology... It takes a couple hundred dollars and filling out some paperwork online to start a llc and be in business for yourself.. You dont even have any overhead if u were to start a online business ecommerce... And there is so many young people killing it in that area and its awesome to see what happens when somebody young uses their brain and the opportunity around them.. Nothing but success.. There is so many books and information online for how to do everything you could ever think of... But they rather watch ticktock and protest about being called a man or woman.. Give me a break... My generation thinks everything should be handed to them on a sliver platter... Go out and work and build something . theres money everywhere you look if ur willing to make some sacrifice in the short term.

Then go looking to family for help when the S hits the fan!
Ever try and have an intelligent conversation with some of those with useless degrees?
Ever pay attention to how much those “office monkeys” screw things up thinking they know better than everyone else because they have a useless degree? -
I never said it was an exception. Also, it's nothing new. I've watched it since the 70s. I grew up in Northern Idaho. People from elsewhere would sell their high dollar property in California and other places and retire there. This raised property values to the point where young folks earning a living in the area did not make an income substantial enough to keep up with the rise in expenses. Again, nothing new.
Younger generations are increasingly interested in their own lifestyle, and are not as willing to change it in order to have kids. Call it selfish, or just the desire to live different than what their parents did.
A certain percentage of the population always has and always will live paycheck to paycheck. It has to do more with spending habits than income. Many folks making 6 digits or more still live paycheck to paycheck.
I don't know, but I bet there is a strong correlation to single parent households, having a smart phone at the age of 10, internet bullying, being subjected to contemplating ones gender by folks in a position of authority, etc. It is certainly arguable that it has more to do with many factors beyond economic hardship.
Folks flap their gums just as vehemently about how hard life is on the poor kids entering the work force now, and ignore the vast opportunities that kids have now compared to prior generations.
It's life. Some make the most of it and some feel sorry for themselves. Nothing new.Last edited: Jul 15, 2023

When I was 18 had I elected to go to college then I could have paid for all 4 years, plus room and board, with 6 or 7 runs from Chickendale to Shakey and Salinas back to Memphis or KC running a 79 362 for my uncle and getting 30% of the gross. That truck averaged $2.65 a mile all miles and covered 4400 miles each week, so you can do the math on that one. Even at that same rate now, you’re only paying for one year. Two if you skip the room and board and live in a tent.

And yet you have it out for people pointing out that it’s happening in many places across the country. Why?
Quite possibly the most boomer response I’ve ever heard. Not one mention of the rising costs of everything. Classic.
Yeah that certain percentage is hovering around 60% right now. But you’re right, some people are just bad with money. But when over half the country is struggling to make ends meet, spending is not the only issue.
Your statement at the first comma summed it up nicely. You should’ve stopped there.
Folks forget the doors and ladders that were open and ready for us to use relatively freely. And how the kids these days have to pay in some form or fashion to have either provided, if they exist or not.[/QUOTE]
It is life. Life isn’t fair. The fact that it isn’t fair mean some have it better others.gentleroger Thanks this. -
Think his issue may have more to do with not understanding what the banks would want to see and what they consider stable. I know a few folks that make a killing but have low credit scores and are considered high risk.
